Bags on rides

Can you get away with using a Go Pro on the rides at AT if it is securely fastened (e.g. using a head or chest mount)?

My son would quite like to video some rides to put on his YouTube channel, and I have been toying with the idea of purchasing a Go Pro.

You can, but you have to go and have it checked by the media staff which would take ages. Not worth it. I wouldn't take it on the ride, because they e-stop the ride.

Edit: beaten to it.

Why do people want to film on rides in the first place? There is nothing you can do that hasn't already been done by semi-professionals with better gear than you will ever have and park permission.

If I was running a park, there would be zero tollerence on filming POVs. Anyone caught would be ejected from the park, banned for life, and have their phone / camera smashed in front of them.

I think if professionally done POV on rides were done by the park and released. Then there would be no need for POV by the public.
I can see why some want to video their face on a ride, but please i dont want to see it on youtube.

I think wanting to film your experience on a ride is why something like Yourday existed about 7 or 8 years ago. It wasn't really successful.

Have Towers ever made any official POVs? I think I recall one of Oblivion or Nemesis (or maybe both), but I might be wrong.

There's an official one of The Smiler isn't there? The one with some of the indoor section cut out where the rumoured 'washing machine' element would have gone.

Is this the one you're on about, Tom?

It's not a full POV, but it doesn't feature the indoor section and it seems like it's the official one. (I got it from Towers' YouTube account) :)

Nemesis, oblivion, the smiler (without indoor section) and half of thirteen (stops as you go into the crypt) all have official videos.

My son just wanted some more videos for his YouTube channel - his friends keep bugging him to add some more, and he thought this would be a good source of material. Something interesting (better than his usual rubbish - gameplay videos off his XBox) and a little bit topical too.

I think it might be better just to shoot some nice short off-ride sections, and do a 'My favourite rides at Alton Towers / Chessington / Legoland / Blackpool Pleasure Beach' video (we are doing all 4 in the space of 2 weeks!).You can even put a bit of personal spin on it then, with a bit of commentary.
