Has there been any indication of whether replacement trains will be coming in 2016? Or will The Smiler just have 3 trains?
that's a good point actually, i hadn't thought of that.
there's been no indication yet, though.

Baaed on a recent tweet from AT (sorry can't link) it sounds like the Smiler is not guaranteed to reopen on opening day of the coming season.

Non of the rides are guaranteed to be open on opening day, (I haven't seen the tweet yet, but) I suspect this is just to cover themselves if they can't open it, so it doesn't look unsafe.

I have removed posts relating the the photo of train being delivered as the discussion was pointless and the photo has since been removed by the Facebook page. It was in fact one of my construction photos from May 2013.

Please continue discussion as normal!

:)

Not sure if these have been posted before, but I've managed to find stock aerial footage of The Smiler (and Alton Towers) that news stations used a few days after the accident. It's nothing particularly exciting but the footage shows staff members presumably carrying out investigations and I found it an interesting watch :)

Footage from the day after (showing staff and the ride cars):

Footage from when the park re-opens (it pans over to x-sector which was closed at the time):

Interesting stuff, certainly remember these shots being used in the news alot, the first two are quite chilling, the way its all layed out with the trains sitting motionless.

Although the subject matter of these aerial shots is covering is very grim and probably the worst thing to happen at the Towers, the third shot/ video makes the towers look great in my opinion, you could see a voice dubbed over the video adverting the park.

Christ... I know we all cry for the rides reopening and I truly believe it will be perfectly safe once it does but... Those images. They really are chilling. I'd almost forgotten how much so. :(
