I feel sorry for ripsaw... hasn't even been given a proper send off...

Anyway, That post is interesting to say the least,

I was thinking the other day that I'm pretty sure a new cafe has been announced for FV so I would love to see a cafe where Ripsaw was, with the existing bridge to enter and the fountains still in operation...

But I think they will just rip it out and put a pop up cafe there, hopefully out of the op cabin? No... Dreaming too big again...

The bridge and the op cabin got removed several weeks ago, and if my memory serves me correctly, so have the fountains. Nice idea you had, though.

Ah, Couldn't remember seeing them in pictures but i'll admit i've not looked at the pictures for ages.

Like I said was never going to happen because that would be creative but hey, a man can dream!
 
Possible replacement for the flume....worlds first multi launch Rmc woodie on the entire flume site and down towards forbidden valley, hence the documents submitted for environmental impact report, with a token splash at the end in a new clean lake as a nod to the old flume....2018. Charlie re theme 2017 possible dream works ip......
 
The thought of having Kung Fu Panda or anything Dreamworks related at Towers is frightening. I'd rather keep Charlie!
 
I know what you are saying, but with the way merlin are going with the European parks I would not be surprised.
Bring back imagination, that's what they used to do...cough.....toyland tours.....cough.
 
Universal have changed the landscape when it comes to theme parks and IPs. Sad but true!

It seems that what a lot of parks now aspire to. It's a shame, but with technology and ip marketing available to the younger generation the way it is, parks now feel the need to tap into this.
I wouldn't mind but unless it is done by Universal, other efforts seem half baked. If only Merlin did create a strong imaginative theme themselves and put the effort what Phantasia Land does, I would be very happy.
 
I don't agree fully with Wardley on the IP issue to be honest. Sure, it helps to have a Jurassic Park or Spider-Man on the ride to draw people in, but I'm not convinced it's absolutely critical as he feels it is.

I personally have a soft spot for dinosaur style rides and, when done well, they can be immersive, quite frightening and certainly bring the element of escapism in. We no longer live in the 90s, so new technology can bring these things to life in a way that hasn't even been done by Universal (as good as the JP ride is there, the dinosaurs don't look particularly life like.)

Perhaps something new could be done. As much as I don't like the shoot em up element of duel, the technology could be used quite well. Imagine an indoor attraction where a Jurassic rain forest is simulated, hot air, warm rain, rivers and the constant noise of dinosaurs. You're in the middle of it, in a group, armed with guns for protection, occasionally dinosaurs jump out at you and you have to fend them off, no point scoring or stupid red lights, just survival. It would be awesome, and even better if they could somehow keep you on foot rather than in a vehicle.

Probably would be very expensive and out of Altons budget or size restrictions but a cool way to utilise new technology and the dark ride genre without resorting to pre made ideas.

That sounds cool, apart from the on foot part. What about people with mobility issues?
 
IP brings people to the park in the same way as worlds firsts do. The people going to Universals Pothead Land aren't going because the rides are good. They are going because they are potheads. (that is the correct term for a potter lover isnt it)

By on foot I mean not in a vehicle, no reason why a wheelchair can't be used.

I'm not overly specific really, that's just what popped into my head, kind of like being in a computer game or something along those lines.

The broader point is that I don't necessarily think an expensive IP is as necessary as JW thinks it is. I can see his point and it's obviously come off the back of extensive knowledge, research and experience. I just feel that if the concept is good enough and innovative enough then it can be avoided, perhaps even generating a new IP in the process.

There's many, many ways to capture people's interest and imagination, providing the fear factor as well if that's the intention of the ride.

The other point I will make is that in England an IP seems to be taken as an opportunity to put less actual work into the ride and just rely on the brand. If you can't market the ride by the brand then perhaps more work would go into the experience itself.
 
In the past it's very true that an ip has seemed to be used as an up sell for a average/below average attaction in the uk. I hope Thorpes new ride changes this. Proof is still inside the pudding.
There clearly is talent in this country to make an ip based attraction top class.

The U.K. Needs a boot up its arse to get any kind of potential out of the parks creative teams.

I can see a cactf replacement but feel it will be a rushed job not the new ride / expanded area we should get
 
Ok, just want to throw this out there. We know SW8 is arriving in 2018, but I've been having a creep around LinkedIn and came across a guy called Bradley Wynne. In his current list of projects he has the following:
