2017/18: SW8 Speculation

I don't know if TS has some inside info, but if not, I'm still hoping for 2017. AT need the excitement of a secret weapon sooner rather than later.

On the one hand, 2017 does seem a stretch, but on the other it would be unusual for a SW poster to go up 2 years before.

If this is covered by the GDO and a planning application is not required then this would speed things up.

I think if 2017 is the target then crews will need to move in within the next month. Remember DBGT is opening 2 months into the season at Thorpe Park.

Here's hoping for a truly epic SW on an unprecedented scale. The space is certainly big enough. If it is true that the budget for DBGT is 35 million (I'm skeptical of that), then is it possible that this could be a far bigger investment than even The Smiler?

With that kind of money AT could create a truly world class wooden coaster or water ride. Just needs the kind of creative thinking that JW had in 1994.

Unfortunately, this does not grow on trees.

The only reason I'd want it opened next year is so we don't have to cope with over-reactive hype for two years!

I know that previous SW posters have not given much away, for example the DNA helix on the SW7 poster, but can anyone post the teaser posters for SW6, SW7 and SW8 together. If I knew how to do it I would. Wondered if it might help do determine what clues, if any, can be determined or if AT always give absolutely nothing away.

Given that the SW8 poster is in a similar style to signage around Mutiny Bay, one would probably assume that it's somewhat linked to Mutiny Bay and pirates. However, the initial plans for the Smiler - and the first signage that we saw advertising it as SW7 - was nothing like what we ended up with, so it's a bit of a difficult one to call. I'm somewhat leaning towards it being linked to Mutiny Bay at the moment.

Pretty sure the first Thirteen teaser banner was some spooky looking trees with "Another fantabulous ride coming 2010" or something like that. But we already pretty much knew the theme after they sent round surveys about different themes, Dark Forest being one of them, in summer 2008.

The first banners/posters never really give anything away. It's just initially to gauge interest and get the geeks all excited. I know a lot of people are saying that they wouldn't advertise this so early on, so it must be planned for 2017. However with such a large fence covering a huge area, and obviously being able to see multiple buildings as well as a large log flume behind said fence... it doesn't look good for guests visiting the park. Placing a poster like this gives a reason for such a large fence being there.

At least when people walk past this area they will think 'oh wow they must be building something big there' and keep an eye on the park for a future visit, rather than seeing a bare fence and thinking 'oh, that log flume must be really unsafe' and come to all sorts of horrible conclusions that Towers isn't the best place to go for a day out.

Thanks for doing that. I'm now over analysing every minute detail lol

Mark my word this is 2017 as part of a two ride two year deal running alongside tlc and the new lodges. I have no evidence just a feeling the smiler incident gave the management and merlin the whack they needed to save the park.

OK, I've studied these every which way but loose and I've concluded that they tell us sod all.

I'd believe you, if only we had seen planning permission, the flume actually leave, construction to begin, or any signs (other than the sign) that it was even being thought of.

2017? I doubt it, though wouldn't totally rule it out.

So the "whack to save the park" is to put in another massive project in even less time than they had for The Smiler? They're stupid but I don't think they're that stupid.

Wait, what?

So the DARK FOREST on the 2010 banner gave no clue... to the DARK FOREST.

And the multi twisting helix, gave no clue, as to the MULTI TWISTING ROLLER COASTER.

Of course.

However, that SW8 gives no clue because there's bugger all on it and it's already themed to the area it's in.

This is more akin to SW7 being done with no Helix and in X-Sector writing - nothing else.

Based on what we've seen, it will be Mutiny themed, but it doesn't actually give any other clues at all.

Other than ground breaking. Which is probably just marketing speak based on SW6 banner.
