Galactica is now open!

Please now use this thread for discussion relating to Alton Towers' new for 2016 ride experience.

You can still view all of the old posts building up to the opening of Galactica over in the Planning Portal Archive section of the forum.

:)

Looking at Ride Times, whilst the park looks fairly dead (Smiler 0 mins, Rita 10 mins), Galactica currnently has a 65 minute queue. That says all we need to know about the throughputs.

:)

I was surprised how well it was running the first few public rides this morning. I think they had all three craft in use, and when we returned from our flight only a very short delay (around 20 seconds?) on the brake run before entering the station.

The faff must be unbearable on a single station "fully dedicated" VR coaster. :screamcat:

On a related note, my first time in the extended queue line up the hill since Air's opening year, albeit this time at walking pace as the queue first opened.

And that's at 20 mins before ride close...

Air had long queues before this, bloody hell. Let's hope that this will be just opening jitters???

I take it fast track is involved with this delay??

Oh my. Could we maybe chalk this up to the fact it only opened today?
I'd like to hope it wont be like this in the summer.. if so i know what i'll be avoiding.

Would like to think they are not selling fastrack just yet to the staff get the hang of it!

Tbh not actually accurate- we got there at 4.10 and managed 4 rides including getting photos on digi pass each time.

It could be a nightmare if they cut the number of ride hosts though (1 per row at points and 1 per 2 rows when quieter)

Not particularly thrilled with Galactica as a ride if I'm honest. The VR video up until the top of the lift hill is of brilliant quality, a promising start. Once the ride kicks in however, that build up is lost. The different scenes are over far too quickly, and gives the impression they were rushed, particularly into the brake run.

The throughout of the ride is naturally taking a tumble, and by the end of the day the audio was juttering and some of the headsets weren't working at all.

As an overall package however it's great. The music, despite its blatant Helix inspiration, is very different but plays into the atmosphere. The painting of the rocks shows attention to detail which I hadn't expected, and the merchandise is very appealing.

I would like to see a few more sequences in the future, as it gets more repetitive than riding without the headset, and therefore loses its rerideability.

Also, Galactica was walk on 20 minutes before park closed. It certainly wasn't 70.

It was walk on 45 mins before park close I did 4 goes in 45 mins.
This is fairly standard practice for them not to update the queue time in the last hour or so of the day on many rides at parks the world over. Staff want to go home on time, so I think they conveniently "forget" to update the wait time on frequent basis. A 70m posted wait time will stop people heading up into FV at the end of the day, whereas a 5m posted wait time would have everyone flooding up there.

For those us that couldn't get there today, was it any good? I must admit I've been sceptical about it, am I right to be?

It's a good overall experience, but not mindblowing.

Rode without the headset on the last ride of the day. Passing through the launch portal at night is going to be utterly joyful.
