Traveller day?

Sorry not sure what today is but we are thinking of going tomorrow with some free tickets. Is it a special day?

They have 2 days a year where gypsies take over the place and from what i have read there are some pretty undesirable characters there. 1 is at Easter time, the other during scarefest I believe. I'm just trying to nail down exactly which day over easter it is. Pretty sure its today.

I've googled it now. The stuff from previous years does say Easter Sunday. The ride times have seemed to be generally short today which is what has promoted us to use the free tickets. They need using by June but from what I've read it could have been unpleasant today!

Traveller days are always Easter Sunday and the first Sunday of Scarefest. There are no traveller days the Monday after so tomorrow should be business as usual.

The park isn't too unpleasant on these days, it's bearable, although saying that I would recommend avoiding the traveller days if you can.

It's always nice to mix with other cultures and appreciate their interesting customs :)

Plenty of walk-through metal detectors at the entrance and police and extra security brought in from outside today so it's all good. Just don't give anyone any funny looks ;)

The general rule is, don't visit on a traveller day if it's your only visit of the year! You will be most disappointed, and I've heard stories of people leaving half way through the day due to it being unbearable. There is a lot of queue jumping going on, and it can be quite intimidating when trying to pass through a big group of them, especially at the Towers archway.

If you have an annual pass, I still wouldn't recommend going, but it can sometimes be quite interesting to say the least! I was there for the first Sunday of Scarefest last year, and we generally managed to avoid any big groups of them.

As we were leaving ATH today they were all arriving. Hardly saw any on Saturday but they are there tonight and tomorrow (Monday). Lots of police cars around the car parks and police walking around the park and hotels. Loads of BMWs, Merc's, Jags etc pulling up outside the hotels, blocking the roads, with kids getting out with identical hairstyles and faces, while the women with their excessive fake tan and make up, mini skirts and extra high heels on. Security on the doors in both hotels as well with room lists checking people were staying before letting them in. Metal detectors on the entrance of the park.

According to Twitter today, a few people had complained to Towers about queue jumping by the traveler folk, and also intimidation and threatening behavior. Apparently someone witnessed a girl on Nemesis being threatened as they had to close the ride. I believe there was also a power cut in the part of the park which caused some threatening behavior from these delightful people.

On a more serious note though, why the heck do AT allow them to come and visit and give them entry given that every year they get a truck full of complaints about their behavior, not just towards public but also staff.

Because if they were to do that it would be extremely prejudice and could land them in trouble!

But its private land. Its a group of people who every year cause trouble. No different to a football stadium banning a group of people known to cause trouble. Its a pity they have to go through this every year, because it spoils it for the other people on park who want to have a fun day out and costs AT a fortune in policing , security, and compensation to those who have their days spoiled.

Personally, I am so so glad I am not staying in the hotels tonight!

The traveller community is an ethnic group (Romani gypsy), so they have protection in law as a community. The only legal way to stop entry is by individual with evidence to back up the refusal of entry.

However the Irish travelers ... Which I think are the common variety found at these events

Anyone with an Irish accent should be banned.
IMO

To be fair we want last year at scarfest it was a nightmare....
But AT when we complained about queue jumping, my wife getting abuse, etc did give us 5 free tickets, plus fast track to the big 3 rides, plus free food so we can really complain
