The journalists' reporting accuracy on Twitter amuses me to no end. Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the Skyride technically count as a roller coaster as the Express & Star are making it out to be?

One thing that has surprised me is apparently the engineers who followed the procedure of overriding the system had not even seen the risk assessment for the ride, as well as never reading or seeing the operation instructions.

true true, and that are going after the parent company Merlin, not Alton Towers, and Merlin have deep deep pocketsI recon about 4 or 5 million. It's a very high profile case so they won't be getting off lightly

No - the Skyride is not a coaster. This is just the media being dumb once again.

They'll get leniency for admitting liability so fast and seeking to Compensate the victims as quickly as possible. That should be commended by the courts as it encourages other companies to do the same in similar cases rather than making victims wait and fight lengthy court battles.

WTF!
"Ben Chapman @BenChapmanITV
The kinetic energy at the moment of impact was similar to a family car crashing at 90mph - prosecution. "
This is a car at 100mph. close enough, could you survive ? !

well...90mph? How was this calculated?
Mr Prosecution A stuck his finger inside Mr Prosecution B, wiggled it about a bit and behold ! 90MPH!

there is no way at all to know, the top top top speed of the smiler is 52mph , this is just a figure to shock the judge to get a large fine, Im sure the defence will say something if they want to poo poo this
The video I posted of a car at 100mph, there is nothing left of it !
If this was like a 90mph car crash, they should make all road cars like the smiler trains and alot more people would survive car crashes

but at 90mph a car looks like this !All modern cars have crumple zones to reduce impact in a collision, the Smiler cars have none at all.

crumple zone or not, there would be nothing left of you

The crash has shown a lot of failings. I find it amazing the engineers had never read the manual, the gaps in training, the pay related to getting the rides running quicker (so clearly going to lead to safety coming second to cash at some point), the lack of thought of design on the cars in regards to "what happens if it crashes".
