Planet Coaster: new Frontier game

It's a shame my PC doesn't have a cat in hells chance of running it!

This is the RCT sequel we've been waiting for.

Here is something I have been working on the last few days.

You really do need a powerful processor to run this game to its full potential, it is very very CPU intense. You can get away with a mid range graphics card. But you need a high end CPU, else CPU bound lag will set in very quickly once your park starts to fill up with peeps.

I am running an AMD Athlon X4 880k Quad Core, GTX 960, 8GB Ram. This PC cost me £420, brand new back in the summer, the game actually runs pretty well up to a few thousand peeps in the park. I can have hugely detailed parks with loads of rides and scenery, and it runs pretty smooth, as soon as I start letting peeps into the park it starts to slowdown quite quickly as my CPU is not as powerful as some of the better CPUs on the market and the CPU has to do all the processing for the guest AI and guest brains which is quite complex in this game. My GPU and RAM do not hit 100% usage at all or anywhere near, but my CPU frequently is being maxed out and that is what is slowing me down when loads of peeps come into the park. But even then it is not unplayable. I intend to try get a new processor and more RAM over the Christmas season if money allows. But the bottom line is, to enjoy the game you can do it on a budget. The recommended AMD processor for this game, the AMD FX8350 8 Core processor sells for less than £150. Not bad at all.

I love this game already. My only gripe with it is the path system. Trying to get my park entrance to look like how I want it is really frustrating because I can't get the path to link up properly. I finally managed to get it sorted but that and the lack of auto-tunnelling on paths is just a bit annoying.

So far 9/10. Fix the paths, I'd give it 10/10.

That looks amazing, hoping this comes to consoles..

Frontier have already stated on their forums that this will not becoming to consoles because they are no where near powerful enough for this game. Not forgetting it would be impossible to control all the features without a keyboard and mouse.

Will it be available on a disk like real software for us old farts though?

I'm afraid not it's digital download only. It's about 5GB in size and has to be brought through Steam. Which is good because you will always have a copy tied to your account that you can download unlimited times. But only played from your Steam account. But means you never loose the game.

The vast majority of PC games are digital download now. Mostly thanks to Steam and how it has revolutionised PC gaming.

Please don't base your decision on getting this game based on if you can get it on DVD or not. As you'r really going to miss out on his fantastic game otherwise. I've seen Blithering Lodge....stunning. You need his game! Just buckle up and get with the times, you won't regret it! ;)

This looks amazing and I think my laptop should be able to handle it.

As someone who's not been paying attention, which should I go for, this, Parkitect or RCTW?

My flight sim PC would run it no problems, but i'm not polluting that with Steam. It's a very delicately balanced ecosystem!

First off, DO NOT GET RCTW! Its a broken, uncompleted, un-optimised pile of crap that Atari rushed to get out the day before Planet Coaster because they wanted to make money off of poor suckers that would buy it without doing the research.

Now with that said:

If you are more of a fan of Roller Coaster Tycoon 1&2, then Parkitect is more your game. Its the same isometric design with a lot more park customisation. Essentially RTC2 with added features but still a really good game in its own right

If you are more of a fan of RCT 3 then Planet Coaster is the one that you should go for. Its made by the same people as RCT 1,2 and 3. Its incredibly well optimised, has ridiculous amounts of park customisation and it looks b-e-a-utiful.

So to sum up:

RCT 1&2 = Parkitect

RCT 3 = Planet Coaster

RCTW = DON'T BUY IT!

Just a Chiapas inspired log flume I've been working on, still work in progress,

Frontier have done an excellent job with this game, wouldn't be surprised to see some more free content down the line as well,.

This game looks absolutely amazing! Just a shame it isn't available on Mac. :(
