Planet Coaster: new Frontier game

Thought i'd share what i've been up too in Planet Coaster, why the hell not.

My first park had a tropical theme and all the assets I used from the workshop. This is my first go at trying to make a realistic small park in an alpine setting.

It's not much but it's my first attempt at using the coaster creator and building a station and i'm quite happy with how it's come out. Not done much of the scenery around the track though, so just ignore that.

Also note I haven't thrown put these screenshots through Photoshop or anything so they don't look that good.

Front of station of my sorry attempt at an Arrow Suspended Coaster. The queue goes under the station which is themed as either a cave or mine, i've not decided yet.

Back of the station. Entrance and exit with a small plaza. The coaster does a small hammerhead like turn over this plaza as you can see in the first image. Maybe not something you'd see on an Arrow, but I like it.

Entrance to this park, have to admit the entrance building was taken from the workshop but I did add/remove quite a bit from it. This ones quite old, the whole entrance plaza is pretty much finished but I cba to go back into game now and get a screenshot.

It's amazing compared to RCT3, don't get me wrong.

But objects in the background tend to have a slight blur or distortion to them, maybe it's just an unchecked option I have.

It is truely amazing compared to RCT 3 - but then it was 10 years ago, what baffles me is the disgrace that is RCT World.

Anyway Planet Coaster is awesome - just look at some of the stuff people are building for basic flat rides even... this game is just beautiful and if you haven't tried it already, I suggest u do

Internet was down yesterday so made quite a bit of progress on my park, quite proud of it so far. You may see some holes in the ground with nothing there, I built a small kids coaster but didn't like how it turned out so deleted it in disgust. Also tempted to create a thread specially for it if anyone's interested.

Decided to theme this area to a cove/port. Think Thorpe Parks Amity area mixed with Drayton Manors Fishermans Wharf.

The Topspin is themed to a hauling type of device? It has wooden scaffolding all over, corrugated roofs, pullys and cranes scattered around the framework with barrels and such to finish the theming off. Going to add some water sequences to the ride and implement the scaffolding around the queue line with some good views of the ride before you get on.

The lighthouse is actually from the workshop, it's far too nice to not include in this area and I would never be able to create something so good, however I did make some changes to it's main building adding an information kiosk and pizzeria and a small decking with tables and chairs looking out across the river. The building just needs a few windows and other small accessories and it'll be finished.

You can also get a bit of a view of the lagoon/swamp the Arrow suspended coaster weaves above in the background, the rock work, trees/shrubs and terraforming are all completed around there.

Entrance way to the area - a slight rip off from Thorpes Amity Cove water tower, but really do like the sight-lines/views from the lighthouse and lift hill when walking towards the area.

To the right is what I would like to think is a beer garden, unfortunately it's just sells coffee in game.

To the left is a Ferris wheel which doesn't look that out of place surprisingly, just behind it is the big lake and it has some good views looking over it from the wheel. Just need to add shrubs/trees to the path planters and buildings before the Ferris wheel and after the beer garden.

Overview so far. Need to add more buildings but they take so long to build and I usually end up making them look like big boxes.

EDIT: Don't know if it's just my screenshots/laptop being shit, but is it me or are some of the trees/objects in the background very blocky or generally not looking good. Been messing around with the settings and can't seem to make a difference.

I think it's about draw distance and I don't think that can be changed. They look fine to me though mate as does the park so far. I've not attempted a swinging coaster yet.

Does anyone know what sort of theming this pack will bring? I know it's adventure theming, before you all make fun of me, but I mean what sort of adventure theming? Will it be like tribal/African theming? Will it be Temple theming?

I've got in my mind Aztec, bit like The Crystal Maze. Come to think of it, you could now make a park themed on The Crystal Maze - we have Aztec zone (Adventure), Future zone (Sci-fi), Medieval zone (spooky/castle) and Industrial zone (mixture of the more generic themed pieces)

I'm still amazed by this game even after a year of playing it. For those of you who aren't familiar with the game or the sheer brilliance of it, go on YouTube and look for Planet Coaster creations. Some good YouTubers who have done crazy things with it are Silvarret, Uthris, Geekism, Rudi Rennkamel and DeLadysigner. Even TPWW's Shawn Sanbrooke has videos of him building a park.

Here are some fantastic recreations of Forbidden Valley with Nemesis, Galactica and Ripsaw. When you know that everything in Planet Coaster is created from in-game assets - nothing can be imported other than videos and pictures for billboards and TV screens you realise just how fantastic the game is and how amazing some of the creators are.

Is anyone running this on close to the minimum specs? I really want to play this but I just about scrape those minimums and only have a laptop so upgrading bits and bobs isn't really an option.

I'm playing in boot camp on a 4 year old iMac (3.5Ghz i7, 16GB RAM, GTX 780M 4GB, Fusion Drive (HDD with SSD cache)) and am happy with the performance. Though larger parks / lots of peeps obviously does struggle, but I don't feel I'm hitting this too soon.

I've also got a 4 year old laptop which runs most games fine but can't run Planet Coaster. Unfortunately the games biggest strength is the freedom to build and simulate everything on a massive scale, which uses a lot of memory. Most games are designed to be graphically impressive but with relatively few calculations going on out of view. This is why the best way to play Planet Coaster is on a custom built memory heavy PC. Laptops simply can't handle that.

Neither could a PS4, or Xbox One, which would have the added disadvantage of having to use a controller. Yet for some reason people keep asking Frontier to port it.

The good news is that if you have a PC the simple fix is to upgrade your memory. If like me you can't have a PC (I simply don't have the space) Parkitect is a great Theme Park manager, just less about the fine details.

Memory is important yes. But I have never seen my system use much more than 8GB of RAM even on very large parks. Memory by itself does not process anything it just stores data. The single biggest component that effects performance is the processor. Having all those guests in the park and the simulation working like it does, puts alot of stress on the processor. By far the processor effects performance more than anything else.

thing on low after being given an old PC which I use only for planet coaster, the game is still gorgeous with everything set to low - it's just when your park starts getting bigger and tons of guests in that youll likely see framerates start to slow - i just build stuff in a new park when i start to see that happen

Don't forget if you're playing it in Sandbox mode you can restrict the number of guests in the park

Having lots of scenery can slow things down slows things down. I think lots of guest slows things down quite alot too, especially on weaker systems. The guest restriction like Steve74 mentioned really helps combat this.

Another thing that can help things, especially if you are running close to minimum specs is Windows 10 game mode. This is built into Windows 10 and helps games by dedicating more computing power to the running game. It works best in its latest iteration (so make sure you have Windows 10 fully updated)

This works best in lower end systems. Rather than high end ones that have no problems running games.
