Pleasurewood Hills

It's my local themepark, yet I wouldn't waste my time visiting now days. Even Yarmouth pleasure beach is better than PWH. And the pleasure beach was completely dead when I visited last week, and you don't have to pay to have to walk around it

I've had some bad times at that park but my recent visit was good fun.

Hobbs Pit was a highlight of the visit. It felt like a good shot at buying into the thriving Halloween market.

I don't pretend to know a great deal about the value of the land it sits on but suspect that is a key consideration in terms of the long term viability of the park.

The fact that it has been purchased by a park operator rather than a developer is grounds for optimism.

Hobbs Pit has had a re-theme, TNT a shooting ride (DMP Wild west shoot out type ride)

Here's a short preview (I'm not sure when it will be opened to the public)

Doesn't look too bad at all. Hobbs Pit was horribly overrated, hopefully this will not suffer the same fate.

:)

I believe this actually opened on Saturday! Looks very impressive, I hear Alan and Daniel Harvey previously from Rex Studios have been involved in this (You can probably already tell that from the UV Style!)

Yeah Alan Harvey and his son Daniel did the scenic work on this, definitely some of the best scenic artists in Europe. Their family UV style is amazing too, fun to see a new ride in this style.

Hobbs Pit had some nifty moments but was never going to last in a family park, was overhyped for what it was. Sad that the park have had to fall back on a standard shooter ride, with less effects, but this looks like a fun result for kids.

Looks fun - looking forward to giving it a go.

However, I still don't get why this gets a pass and Duel is considered to be all sorts of things that are not complimentary.

It's all relative. No one expects a park with practically zero budget to match one of the world's biggest park operators at what is ostensibly their flagship park.

I figured that might be the reason @John - I guess my approach or thinking is slightly different, in that if something is fun, it's fun and if it sucks, it sucks - but I think I understand the logic.

I agree with the sentiment but Duel isn't a goofy kids shooter at a small regional theme park. Or if that's all it was meant to be, then even this one looks more fun for kids if its all just about shooting colourful lights. Duel puts most its huge building and the recycled 'ex'-scenes of the Haunted House (originally a much bigger theatrical type dark ride) to waste. I doubt it can satisfy much of the attending visitors at Alton Towers with broken laser guns and broken scenes, not nearly as much as it should.

I'm sure you can acknowledge the difference of opportunity between what was built to be the biggest family dark ride in Europe of the time, to this modest one at Pleasurewood Hills. Or even the budgets affordable by a company as big as Merlin to redo something compared to Pleasurewood Hills.

Even then the difference of quality between this new ride, unbotched, and an old worn out one that's been terribly looked after? I think the underwhelming feeling of Duel in its current state is obvious to the average rider. Whereas this ride is brand new and is lit the way it was intended (hence it looks good), hasn't had its sets painted over black in many places and props removed, etc..

I think this PH one could have been done better if more money had been given, more animation and that, but as a little shooter for youngsters, the money's been spread well for 3 minutes of fun.

Different rides, and I personally feel that Duel "sucks" these days anyway, when it doesnt have to. If it "sucks" it doesnt necessarily mean it inherently sucks, it's just not been maintained and is degraded. I'm sure some young kids still enjoy it to a degree, but personally I have only ever seen listless faces come off Duel, from when I was a kid on it to now.

Been to the park today, Rooting was okay, nothing spectacular to note, targets were a bit weird, they don't change colour upon hit, some stay red while others flash green upon hit. The entrance is the old exit to Hobs Pitt and the exit is the old entrance.

Pleaurewood Hill have announced on Facebook that a classic ride will be making a comeback this year. Rumours among local enthusiasts are that it's the park's former coaster Rattlesnake which has been SBNO For the last few years.

Will be awesome if they've managed to fix it! :)
