Sorry if this thread is in the wrong forum, but I wasn't sure where to put it. Anyway, the title of this topic is quite self-explanatory. Would you like to see Alton Towers sell a CD with its ride and area scores on it? Thorpe Park's recent release of an IMAscore CD got me thinking about this. I would personally like Alton to release a CD. I would definitely buy it, but I don't think my family would let me listen to it in the car. My Mum already thinks I'm sad enough listening to it on YouTube, let alone buying a CD of it! In fact, I think this is probably how a typical Newman family conversation would go regarding putting on Alton's music:
  • Me: I've got an Alton CD here. Can I put it on?
  • Mum/Dad: Do you think I'm some sort of saddo or something?

Yes. But put some of the old tunes on there as well.

Love me a bit of old school Towers Street music.
Yes! I always think that Alton music would be great to listen to, especially on the way to Alton! I sadly don't think that Alton music would win over Kiss FM in our family car...

Yes, but as you can listen to the music on YouTube, it would need to be in full Dolby Digital 5.1 for my Yamaha RVX370 AV receiver surround set up (it was ex display reconditioned in Richer Sounds... they have some real bargains on the right day) for that authentic experience.

My 2 favourite pieces of AT music?

Nemesis and Katanga Canyon.

Yes! I agree! Nemesis is a great piece, and Katanga Canyon just fills you with joy as you approach the area! Some other great pieces include Smiler, Galactica, the 2008 Towers Street music... the list goes on!

Why stop at 5.1 when you can have Dolby Atmos? not sure it would have been mixed in 5.1 but if it was they would have to put on DVD/Blu-ray audio or Super Audio CD, but they are niche/dead format.

Pretty sure the original tracks are only stereo. Or possibly even mono.

Despite Towers demanding websites to remove audio pieces many years ago, it's not that difficult to find old audio online.

The best you could get for a CD is one with IMAscore tracks only, which I think wouldn't be that bad of an idea. This year has shown there is demand for enthusiasts to buy merch that won't interest the majority of the public (pin badges selling out within an hour, blocks of wood selling out within hours...). IMAscore have created enough for Towers so a CD could happen in future.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

The Katanga Canyon music is perfect. The moment I hear it I feel a sense of wonderment and adventure. It's exciting, jolly, but ever so mysterious. Definitely brings out the adventurer in me. I want to know what lies around the next corner even though after all this time I all ready know.

Nemesis, what can I say. There could be no better score to up the intimidation as you approach the King of Rollercoasters for the world's most intense ride experience. The deep base that you can feel In Your chest, the three sudden riffs like a stabbing knife, the way it builds slowly but powerfully getting ever more fearsome. The use of Holsts The Planets was inspired.

While these are my favourites by a country mile, I also love The Smiler (so infectious... Love how you get the intimidating version in the queue and the happy version in the shop after correction ( sod it... I'm still using the C word).

Dual is pretty good and I even have a soft spot for the old flume music.

Whatever failings AT may have under various ownership there choice of music has usually been inspired.

If they are using IMAscore for SW8, then I expect another Masterclass.

I wouldn't buy it or listen to it, but if people would like it - sure, why not.

Well, IMA has been trying for ages with Towers. They were getting somewhere with the Smiler audio until the accident and talks then went dead in the water.

They tried further last season but again it stalled. So they tried with Thorpe once they started composing for them who originally said no but then warmed to the idea around early summer with the album we’re getting now.

The parks get a cut of the sales too. IMA deal with the production etc and all the parks have to do is say yes! It’s win win for Towers really. I’m glad Thorpe’s is finally happening because maybe now, Towers can see a fellow Merlin park having a success with their CD release and follow in their footsteps.

If Towers were to let IMA do one though, expect only Smiler, Galactica, Heritage, Towers Street, Spinball, SW8’s and maybe Fireworks tracks to be released.

Towers should just do an online audio part to their shop, it’d be so easy for them. That way we could get other tracks added on there that aren’t IMA and they wouldn’t have to worry about faffing with physical copies.

Yes, maybe a digital download format may be more effective being cheaper to produce.
I don't know who owns the rights to IMA scores, if Alton/Merlin does that's fine, but if IMA does that could complicate issues, especially if IMA and Merlin had a fallout in the future.

Slightly off topic and very controversial but if this was to happen I'd go one step further and have IMAScore re-master the scores for other rides; such as Nemesis, Hex and Oblivion. and yes I'm suggesting that these re-mastered soundtracks should replace the originals in the park.

I love the original music but from what I hear the versions currently being used are copies of copies (some of which the park lost and had to download from the very sites which were later told to remove their copies). Just think of how much more impressive these soundtracks would be if they were the same quality as the newer tracks. And if IMAScore where the ones to do it there wouldn't even be an issue with them bundling all the tracks on one CD and we'd finally have a definitive Alton Towers collection.

Just remaster Oblivion's soundtrack. Its absolutely awful. Sounds like an 80s song, and doesn't at all match the tone of the ride's theme whatsoever.

It wasn't mixed in 5.1 as...the speakers used to play it in reality are mono. So it's basically downgraded from original stereo to mono in the park as you hear it. And as for Dolby Atmos - the prospect of an extensive remix of the tracks for the single figure number of enthusiasts that have a compatible Atmos setup (or rent a cinema) to be able to listen to it is quite a funny one ;)

You mean replace then, rather than remaster? And I disagree, Oblivion's soundtrack is a classic - you can't redo it without completely ruining the original atmosphere!

Personally, I did prefer IMAscore's (incredible) Hex instrumental version (from Alton's 2015 Fireworks soundtrack) to the original.
What a beauty! :)
