Security at Theme Parks and Other Public Places

I know Thorpe is a complete hole but blowing it up is a bit drastic
The funny thing is they seemed to surguest I could leave it in my car (I don't have one) or leave it with security till 3.

So they don't want devices going off anywhere in the resort but in the car park or staff area of the done

Wakesurf school? (Don't worry, found out what you mean).

I can't believe they thought a battery was a bomb? Are these people incapable of using common sense? Jesus Christ remind me never to turn up with one of my planes on the back seat, they might have me shot me on sight.,.,.

Aren't you a VIP passholder? Surely that should have been enough T to give them a clue that you probably didn't have any intention of blowing the place up....

Actually, VIP has to go through security too?? Haha I bet that has made a few of them unhappy...

Wakesurf school is sort of behind Thorpe park...that was my first proper view of Thorpe the day before my first visit.
Strange really, Thorpe looks really nice from the back.

It's in the park now, they advise on their website to bypass the theme park security checks and enter the park via the staff entrance, say you are visiting them, sign in in the book then go to the wake school entrance down by zodiac.

I'm not sure whether to laugh, or be annoyed, I know I often walk past / ignore security out of principle until they actually get my attention, but fuck me actively telling your customers how to bypass security in black and white on their website - that is dumb and totally deserving of some public shaming for it.

Yet more evidence to the ineptiveness of Thorpe security.

So what do they do with anybody who takes so e-cigarette in with them now?

I remember last year (maybe the year before?) just walking right past security through the little gap in the wall by the toilets, is that still a thing or did they close it up?

In general the process for VIP is to go the the person Manning bag free, ask politely and our bags are checked their and we are then sent down the middle.

Yeah, they though I was bringing a bomb into the park but they offered me the chance to leave it in the car park or worse with security and they let me in the park after a patdown (not fun for aspies).

The duty manager in charge said he would email the wake school he appeared to not have any idea the school advises people that way, so if you see people carrying boards through TP bag check you know why.

Not 30 minutes to track me down, they were following me (not at all discreetly), I just checked a message I sent someone/me phoning someone from them to speak to, it turns out I had Thorpe park security duty managers following me for an entire hour at least.
30 mins to track you down? It took them a lot less to track me down.

This was a battery pack right? The type of thing that people use to keep their phones charged, it wasn't a 12v with lists of wires hanging off it and blocks of white stuff with C4 on was it?

I could understand them being s bit suspect over inbred willy taking something like that in, but a VIP passholder, there are so few of them that it should be fairly obvious, if I were you I'd be kicking up a real fuss over it with Varney directly, you don't pay £700 a year to be treated like a criminal, even I'd be kicking up a fuss and I'm only a £25 Thorpe passholder.

I wasn't even treated that badly at Alton last year either in similar circumstances, the guy even knew what the battery pack and cable was for, I didn't need to explain it was for my e-cigarette or anything like that, and that was an obnoxious baboon that was extremely rude for the majority of the experience. Also patting you down, did they warn you that was going to happen and ask your concent to do it? If not that's assult.

I've gotta go this week, I'm gonna have fun with them, confiscating something permanently is theft, pat downs without consent is common assault, you don't even have to identify yourself to a policeman unless you are in a car, let alone maul cop secti rut at a theme park. I'd have called the police and let them sort it out had they been following me round the park.

Yeah great. There aren't coppers available to attend to things like burglaries and so on, but I'm going to call them because I wanted to take a bloody battery into a theme park.

You guys know they have to have security at Thorpe as everybody revels in explaining how it's always full of scumbags, so just deal with the searches etc and GET A LIFE. Or you know, if it's so far against your human rights, just don't go if you're so offended.

Oh yeah, and I'm sure Varney has better things to be getting on with.

Don't they have anything better to do?

The security on Saturdays for their ministry of sound nights wasnt great. Saw someone have their "cigarette" papers taken off them. Pretty certain they can't do that

Unbelievable.
Meanwhile, on Friday night at a pub/club in the middle of a dodgy Hoxton housing estate, the bouncer was a lovelly chap. Didn't even search us, always called me "sir", opened doors for people etc. I had a good old chin wag with him every time I popped out for a smoke.

It's almost as if they are trying to put people off visiting.

They had definite reason to question it, less reason to say I can't take it onto the park whilst asking if I have a car, and they can keep it for me at security till 15:00.

No they can't, it's called theft, but because of people like@BarryZola who are quiet happy to not challenge stuff like this it'll happen more and more, not even a copper has the right to confiscate fag papers.

Oh btw @BarryZola nobody was actually complaining about the bag searches, what has got people's back up is they told @ihaveaspergers that they were going to permanently confiscate his battery pack which is theft plain and simple, unlike you, who would it would appear have just handed this over, @ihaveaspergers stood up for himself and still has the battery pack in his possession, Thorpe security had no idea what the battery was for, it could have been as a backup for a medical device or used to charge someone's dildo, the point it, what the battery was for was none of their business - now had they found a stick of explosive tucked into his trousers, then maybe they would have had reason to confiscate it, but not simply because they felt like it and wanted to exert power over someone.

I'm also pretty sure security staff abusing their power to relieve punters of their property without any authority, would be fairly interesting to Varney, as that kind of stuff could do even more damage to their reputation, which is fairly well in the shitter already.

Maybe you are prepared to have your rights trodden all over, but some of us aren't.
