Nemesis: Sub-Terra

I even like the Phalanx thing, and to be honest I think people are overly sensitive about being shouted at, I can’t say it’s ever bothered me, then again I was a chef for 8 years.

I don't mind the idea of the shouting and the urgency, but I think it just rang totally false, in line with the rest of the attraction. The pre-show is literally standing outside on some scaffolding, and then standing inside a shipping container. There was no sense of suspense or detail, so most guests just saw what it was; Some bad actors shouting at them for no apparent reason.

A corrugated metal building with some satellite dishes placed on top hardly screams *come ride this*. It's such an ugly building, from the off there is nothing to entice guests towards the building. Unlike say Duel with it's spooky house facade or Hex with it's mysterious Towers entrance. The shouting actors, enough said. That alone always put me off repeat rides.

I love the concept, hate the execution.

Any info on the new scarefeast attraction/maze? It all seems quiet. I'm sure they had started doing teasers for the welcoming this time last year.

Never understood the point of NST. Get shouted at and insulted by staff who really don't seem to care, watch a cheap CGI video that contradicts the original nemesis story (why couldn't they just play the tom baker one in the queue line, it explains enough), finally get to the ride itself, where the drop is so short you barely notice you have moved... where the the climax of the ride turns out to be some eggs? All finished by walking through an empty scaremaze.

That said though, kind of liked it. If not for the points I just made, at least it was something to do to give some variety in between running to the different coasters all day. Just for that, I'm looking forward to see how this develops.

Just a thought on project 42 though, could this be a permanent rebrand of sub terra. Given how poorly received it was and the confusion with nemesis, I could see it opening as a permanent scaremaze like saw alive.

There seems to be so much talk & activity around Sub Terra at the moment. Does anybody have any speculation or thoughts on what’s happening? I saw a tweet with some dummies and the queue board on with -40?

Haven't the park already confirmed it won't ever be returning? Or did I dream that?

Don't think it will re-open personally. They may use the building for a future attraction rather than scaremaze though. I hope they do.

Queue was still showing -40 yesterday. It looked like the area had been tidied up yesterday.

Recent report from Merlin showed that Halloween visits were a big earner for them - I would think that they are simply guess that they are getting a head start on preparations. I think the site has a lot of potential, but I doubt you will see anything new in that area anytime soon.

They're probably just using Project 42 for a Scarecon convention or something.

Yeah I suspect it is Scarecon as it is on at Towers from 20th-22nd this month. http://www.scarecon.org/

From that site:
2018 was our tenth anniversary and we really celebrated our birthday with a bang, but 2019 is going to be even bigger! Once again, the event will be split over two days with a dedicated programme of workshops and seminars, our largest ever trade floor, the ScareBALL costume party, live entertainment, evening meal and entry to the SCAR awards on the 21st. Followed by exclusive access to selected scare attractions.

Saw an old video on this earlier, and this is probably gonna be unpopular, but I loved this ride! It wasn’t world class or anything but I genuinely enjoyed it. Also gonna be unpopular but I actually preferred it over Hex and Duel and I wished they’d have reopened it!

Ask a stranger to yell at you, close your eyes and ride Hippity Hop.

I did always have a soft spot for Sub Terra. The version with the pre-show and actors at the end was perfect. And was actually a really good story and ride and could be quite scary if you got the good actors, especially if there were a lot of people who hadn’t been on before.

I would love to see it come back, even if it was a peak times and Halloween only attraction, towers are lacking in filler rides, and sub terra was a perfect filler ride.

However I fear now ents have had their hands on it, the whole Building and tech system will be trashed and hard to just put back to normal.

it just looks like an abandoned theme park at the moment with its bin bag scaffolding and half falling apart scare maze pre show tent.

Interesting that Towers Street posted this yesterday. Probably a complete co-incidence but teasers like that have been posted before about other things when an announcement has been imminent:

This discussion was re-started because @Danscott22 posted the below, likely because they say the video this site posted too. I wouldn't read anything into it, this site is unofficial and I doubt the team heard anything from AT.

It was just crap.

It was fine, it just relied too much on people shouting at you to create a scary atmosphere rather than doing it by props and shows (more like Hex).

If the ride system is till in place, and it's clear Project 42 is not coming back, so I think maybe there's a possibility, even if it is a slim one.

Do people think it is feasible that one day NST may reopen as a rethemed/rebranded attraction, perhaps using an IP such as TWD at Thorpe Park?

In a world of minimal investment by Merlin into their parks, which will be made worse by reduced revenue due to covid, I’d say it seems quite feasible.

Slap an IP on the front and tweak the story and you have something ‘new’ for not much cost.

It would also address one of the most frequent complaints about Alton Towers; even though I personally think the 3 dark rides the park will have once Gangsta Granny opens is perfectly sufficient, most seem to complain about the park having a lack of filler rides, so a rethemed and reopened Sub-Terra would appease those people, as well as add to the park’s all-weather ride selection that can open during inclement weather!
