Rank Alton's coasters in terms of ride experience

1. Nemesis - Probably my favorite coaster because of its uniqueness and pure intensity.
2. The Smiler - I have personally never had a rough ride on it,
3. Wicker Man - Great, fun ride that blew my expectations.
4. Oblivion - Very short but extremely effective.
5. RMT - One of the best family coasters I have ever experienced.
6. Th13teen - Cool concept but gets boring on re-rides.
7. Air (Galactica) - I find the main ride boring, and the VR gives me a headache.
8. Spinball - Very rough with a standard layout, probably the worst Mauer coaster I have ridden.
9. Rita - I have ridden this 5 times, every time I have a horrible, rough experience. The layout is unimaginative, and the launch gets absolutely obliterated by Furius Baco and Stealth. This is currently my least favorite coaster (well I only have 52 credits, so what do I know?)

I have yet to ride Octonuats because I am saving it until I can ride it with my new born niece in a few years.

Prepare to be slated for even hinting that there is anything decent about Baco.

I did it in another topic and my head is still pounding from the kicking I received.

1. Nemesis
2. Wicker Man
3. Oblivion
4. The Smiler
5. Th13teen
6. Rita
7. Galactica
8. Spinball
9. RMT

Haven't done Octonauts and don't plan to, but I'd assume it would be at the bottom.

This is a question of 'technical achievement'. While many have put the Smiler, I do see its merits in what it has achieved in a small corner of the park. However putting the Smiler higher up the list against the likes of Nemesis and Air in terms of the technical achievement is naive.

Nemesis was built, thought of and developed in the early 90's (not built but developed). The technical achievements it had to overcome in terms of the restrictions on the area were immense, and something never before seen in the world, never mind the UK. Getting the B&M engineers, civil constructions, planning designed team, and the whole project to fit to Wardleys (and co), vision of what was achieved must have been insane.

To compare this to the technical achievement of the Smiler, and then rate the Smiler higher is quite obtuse, without knowing what actually went into the Nemesis development at the time, based upon actual possible achievements in the early 90's.

So on that note, I'll list mine:

1. Nemesis
2. Oblivion - Never before tried piece of technology and design along with the technicalities of digging a great big hole as well.
3. Air - Plenty to be said about what went into that, they started from scratch in terms of design.
4. Thirteen - Taking a drop tower initiative and adding it to a rollercoaster with a sufficient turnaround. Better than elsewhere in the world
5. Smiler - Yes it's a technical achievement, however the two lift hills are not new, nor are they technical achievements in this industry. Also subjectively, it's a painful ride after 2, but this doesn't have no bearing on the position
6. Runaway Mine Train - RMT - What it's achieved technically by criss crossing over the rapids and the layout is amazing for what it is. It's a fun coaster and is severely underrated
7. Wickerman - Great coaster and as a ride I rate it very close in my top 3. In terms of 'technical achievement' ; either within or outside the industry, it doesn't innovate much in the sense that it's offered anything different in technical terms to the riders. Smoke a back story and fake fog machines are not technical achievements, although it is a great ride!
8.Rita - Sorry pet! You came off the shelf(ish) and although you have a lot to offer, there's not much technical input to whole ride; Layout, design etc..
9 and 10. Spinball and Octonauts

Just realised this thread is for ride experience. I've went off on a tangent thinking it was for the technical part. #mybad

By saying the smiler is a technical achievement I think they meant the layout.

My fav rides are probs a bit weird to most but heres my rating

1. Nemesis - still as smooth and exciting as ever
2. Galactica - just good fun
3. Wickerman - really brilliant woodie
4. Oblivion - short queue and great drop
5. The Smiler - difference in ride experience each time: 5 when its at its best
6. Spinball Whizzer - underappreciated and better drops that Th13teen
7. Rita - pretty rough but quite smooth on the front
8. Th13teen - very short, only the first half is enjoyable as a coaster
9. Runaway Mine Train - only for kids, quite slow
10. Octonauts - Only for young kids, very slow and uninteresting, quite like the water effect though

In terms of physical ride experience for me
1. Wicker Man
2. The Smiler
3. Oblivion
4. Galactica
5. Th13teen
6. Rita
7. Nemesis (not sorry about this one, never liked it)
8. Spinball Whizzer
9. Runaway Mine Train
10. Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure

After a bit of a think, some rerides and finally getting on Octonauts, I now have a new list:
  1. Nemesis - Wow! Despite its diminutive size in comparison to some other coasters worldwide, Nemesis certainly packs an equal, if not greater, punch than many of these larger coasters, in my personal opinion! The layout is unique, the pacing is relentless, it's really smooth and it's a thrill that never fails to deliver; what more could you want? 10/10
  2. Wicker Man - A fabulous wooden coaster! While it may be somewhat lacking in the airtime department compared to some other woodies, the amazing pacing and fantastically twisty layout and transitions more than make up for it! An absolutely fantastic addition that really grew on me towards the end of the season, and I liked it a lot from the start! 9/10
  3. Galactica - Galactica may not be the most intense coaster, but I love it because it's just such a fun ride! I love the coaster's grace and smoothness, yet thrilling transitions and it's genuinely a very fun ride, if you ask me! 8/10
  4. Oblivion - It may be short, but this ride is certainly sweet! That drop never fails to deliver; the forces and sensation of speed are brilliant! 8/10
  5. Thirteen - A very fun family coaster! It may not be the most intense coaster out there, but it wasn't designed to be; the first drop is actually very, very good, in my opinion, especially if seated towards the back where you get some good sustained floater! The turns are also nice and whippy and some of the other hills provide good gentle floater, and the drop track and backwards section never fail to disappoint! A very fun ride! 6/10 relative to my whole count, but a top-notch family coaster.
  6. The Smiler - I really struggle to rank The Smiler. It is a good coaster, I won't deny, but I don't really enjoy it as much as many others I've ridden these days. While not terribly rough, in my opinion, I definitely wouldn't call it smooth, and I do think I would enjoy it more if it didn't have such a persistent judder to it and some of the hard jolts were smoothed out. As my taste in coasters changes, I'm also not really sure if it's my kind of coaster, if you get what I mean. Still, I appreciate it as a piece of engineering, and the layout is quite good with many thrilling moments; 14 inversions in that space was never going to be butter smooth, and I certainly admire them for doing it! 6/10
  7. Runaway Mine Train - Runaway Mine Train never fails to disappoint as a fun family coaster! Even though it might not be the fastest or most intense coaster, it provides the perfect mid-ground between Octonauts and Thirteen, in my opinion! If seated towards the back of the train especially, I also find the ride to be surprisingly forceful considering its apparent low speed! I personally think that John Wardley's description of it as a "pink-knuckle coaster that everyone can enjoy regardless of age" sums up RMT perfectly, and it will always be a special ride for me! 5/10 relative to my whole count, but a brilliant family coaster.
  8. Spinball Whizzer - I can certainly get why people would like this, as the spinning is fun, but I find Spinball a little too rough and jerky to truly rank highly as a family coaster, personally. Still, it's a reasonably fun ride that has a wide appeal! 4/10 relative to my whole count, but still a good family coaster.
  9. Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure - Perfectly fine as far as kiddie coasters go; it's smooth and reasonably fun, so I don't really know what else I can ask for! Also, the theming is very nice, with a synchronised audio track, a bubble machine and a water-squirting whale, amongst other things! A great first coaster for the youngest guests! 4/10 relative to my whole count, but it's a great kiddie coaster.
  10. Rita - The launch is great, but I remember it being very rough last time I rode and I'm not a fan of those Intamin OTSRs. 3/10

You have good taste Matt, though I clearly rate the Smiler higher than you and Rita a little lower.

With the exception of Rita, there isn't an AT coaster that I don't really enjoy.

BUT Hero at Flamingoland. Can even the most optimistic poster on their best day, after winning the lottery find anything good to say about it.

I don't think I could.

Thank you! You must really hate Rita if you have it lower than me, although I can understand someone liking The Smiler more than I do!

Let's be honest enthusiast community, despite nemesis being a good ride, it's rough. Some say it's smooth and I have no Idea how to be honest. Yes it's fun, forceful and unique, but if you want a smooth B&M then head next door to nemmy
In my opinion, the actual track is very smooth, even though one or two of the transitions could induce minor headbanging. Even though Nemesis isn't quite glass smooth, it's still about as smooth as it gets for a coaster of its age and intensity; I'd certainly call The Smiler's jolts worse.

B&M older models don’t age as well as folk suggests but the inverts fair better than the sit downs. I can only assume this is because your head is closer to the track so the vibrations haven’t propagated as much as they do on an old sit down coaster.

Swarm is the smoothest B&M I've ridden. More so than the likes of kumba, montu, nemmy, oblivion, air

Anyone who says that Nemesis is rough needs to go and ride some more coasters. A visit to Blackpool should do it. Yes I have had a few rides on Nemesis that have a couple of rougher/jolty moments but these are few and far between and I suspect it relates to the condition of the wheels at the time.
