Scarefest 2019

WM is an improvement compared to last week but the side of the structure facing the queue has pretty much none of the screens working so it's not as good as last year.

Hey, I really wouldn’t worry about times. They’re not gonna not let you in because the queues were too long. If you’ve booked daytime maze slots then you’ll probably walk straight on, if after say about 7ish then you will probably encounter queues.
As for the maze time slots there’s a half an hour leeway. So either half an hour before or after
Hope this helps :)

Thank you so much! Looking forward to it even more now

We’re planning on booking mazes for earlier in the day, however I’m aware this means that the queues will be shorter.

Will they still wait for more people to make a larger group as I don’t want to go in a smaller group as I’m quite scared oops hahah

Nope we went through p42 as a group of 4 :tearsofjoy:

How long should you leave between booking the three mazes and the Attic? Obviously P42 is on the other side of the park so I presume you can factor in the walk over to the Towers?

Went through P45 on my own last week as was no q ... and sub was just 3 of us. Not that it makes any difference in that maze of you are a group or not :D

How are the mazes going to make a profit if sending just 1 to 3 people through them? The problem I believe is the queue is too long at the box office for people to be bothered buying tickets for them. Too many other people queuing for fast track and other wristbands etc..... plus the place lacks atmosphere as no scarezones as well it's just such a shame :-(

This may have been a problem in the past but it certainly isn't now. You can have your tickets sent to a phone, print them out at home or even buy them on a mobile device using a QR code outside each individual maze. Queuing for maze tickets at Box Office is now perhaps the least common method of obtaining them.

How strict even is the park on the 15+ rule for the more intense scare mazes? I’m 16 myself but really don’t look it so not sure whether I need ID or something

It's an advisory, so you won't need ID.

Well if they are sending 1 to 3 people through scaremazes the phone method of purchase doesn't seem very popular? Perhaps people do still like to purchase on impulse face to face

The issue is people wait until it’s dark to do the mazes, making them practically walk on in the daytime. We made that mistake last year and ended up queuing over an hour for mine tours.

I've got DD booked for 2pm on the 21st, hoping there'll be at least a few others in our group. :p

So I’m off on the 20th, but we’re skipping sub species so we’d have to book separate. Looking at doing DD P42 and mine tours/ attic (which is best?)

How accurate do you have to be with your time slots when booking mazes individually? (Sorry if this has been asked already). :)

Don’t think they partially care about time, unless you are really early or they are really busy I don’t think they are too fussed. They can’t turn you away if you are really late either as you could have had issues with other mazes or rides during the day to miss your slot.

Doing the mazes earlier in the day means they will be much quieter and none of them need to be done in the dark as they are all inside this year.

If anything it can be better in the day because your eyes are not used to the dark. Do the mazes later on and you’ll see a lot more.

To be fair I think adding sub species only adds £2 with the 3 maze pack so might as well just brave it, only 2 quid if not. What’s the worst that can happen

Few thoughts from yesterday:

Giveth with one hand, taketh with the other.

Whilst some of the decorations (particularly on Towers Street), smoke and lighting have been improved, the atmosphere continues to dwindle and there are many areas where the park simply feels as if it's just open late into the night.

Cite all the H&S bull you want, but the spends on the Wicker Man's great lighting package are ruined by the hideously bright white lighting in the queue line. This isn't in other queue lines, so why does it have to be in Wicker Man's? It's painfully bright, especially when you're stuck in the queue for extended periods due to downtime.

Project 42 felt like a large improvement compared to last year. Much better run through and felt far more substantial.

The Attic is a great refresh of TotT and what has been sorely needed. The pre-show is beautifully themed, as is the majority of the maze for the most part (post fireplace seems quite cheap).

Sub Species, which used to be the pinnacle maze, has now well outstayed its welcome. The layout hasn't changed on previous years, so it's become far too predictable. The actors seem a lot tamer than they used to in there as well, as if they simply can't be arsed. This is the only maze that used to get my adrenaline pumping; now it's just a stale wart clinging onto the Scarefest line up.

On the other hand, Mine Tours seems to get better each year. The grouping system of going from wall to wall is bizarre, but the maze now surpasses Sub Species in being far less predictable, with the actors noticeably a lot more hands-on and going for it than the previous maze.

Darkest Depths is a whole new level. Beautifully themed, a great story and overall well executed. The finale seems to fall slightly short, but the idea is certainly there and I'd love to see this improved upon next year.

Overall an improvement on last year, but still Scarefest remains a shadow of its former years with a dire need to put some emphasis on sustaining an atmosphere that's park-wide; not just confined to the mazes.
