Galactica: General Discussion

I hate that backwards section on Galactica.

I heard a rumour that the B&M flyers were initially intended to raise and lower the craft as the train was exiting or entering the station, rather than when the train is parked. I don't know how true that is but it would've been interesting and made the dispatches even quicker. However I guess it would've caused problems if it failed to reach the correct position in time.

^ @Alsty Haven't heard that before, but it is true that Vekoma originally intended for the Flying Dutchman trains to go into the flying position on the lift, rather than in the station.

Technically possible... yes. But practically possible, no. B&M + Consign AG had enough challenges getting Air working reliably. They had snapped inertia bars [the bars that raise / lower the crafts] to deal with - an unevenly loaded train would guarantee problems. The communication system from the trains to the control system had to be changed from radio to infra-red. I could go on, but the Vekoma version of going up the lift on your back before flipping over for the first drop has a lot of benefits when it comes to an evacuation.

Brake run stints must be far shorter without the VR?
Had one ride on it this season and only stopped for about 10/15 seconds as opposed to about a minute last time so yes in my experience it’s definitely improved

It should never stop on the brake run when running both stations. Ideally a train should leave the station before the previous one even gets to the far end of the brakes.

I feel the ride will be the first of the b&m’s to go which is a real shame

it would have been stunning if wardleys concept was fully implemented

Why would it go? I expect it to outlive Nemesis at the very least, on account of it being 8 years younger and not having such awkward foundations

Personal feeling - and on the basis that it is not a complicated structure to replace as nemesis and oblivion are.

It’s also probably the least popular out the three

When I rode last week they were only running two trains but using both stations. Meant that there was no wait on the brake run, to my relief! :) That's the second worst part of the ride for me, after the section that turns you on your back.

To paraphrase Commander Worf, "If you were any other man, I would report you where you stand!"
.... I assume I'm missing something here?

I’ve had a couple of rides on Galactica this season when the vest hasn’t locked, it’s actually quite an uncomfortable ride, as you get proper chucked about.

Both times I told the ride host who said “it’s just there for comfort and not safety”

I don't know what you are on, but can I give it a little try please.
I promise not to drive or operate any heavy machinery for twelve hours afterwards.

And this is why you don't let a 4 year old play games on your phone... Sorry guys
