Your Top Ten Coasters

Icon and Swarm getting 10s while Wickerman and Nemesis gets 9?? You cant surely say you love the way Icon runs out of pace at the end and the fact that Swarm should be twice as long?

I don't know why, but Icon has always felt really fast when I've ridden it, and I've never personally found Swarm's length a problem. For me, I rank my coasters on how much fun I have on them; I admit that some of my favourite coasters may not be the most intense out there, but they are the ones that provide me with the most personal enjoyment. These rankings are entirely a matter of personal opinion; I'm sure there are people out there who would give my two favourites Mako and Icon 1/10 and my two least favourites Grand National and Infusion 10/10, and that's fine by me!

Thanks for the advice @D4n, but the reason I keep wanting to keep it updated in terms of a post is because it's a little easier for me to keep track of for the TowersStreet favourite coasters spreadsheet I'm compiling for the year. If you're wondering what I mean, I did the same thing last year.

Hi everyone! Firstly; Merry Christmas to you all!

Secondly, I just came into this thread to remind you all that if you want to get your opinion included in my spreadsheet for TowersStreet's Favourite Coasters of 2019, then you only have 1 week left to post a list! So basically, you've got until the end of New Year's Eve, as I plan to compile this year's results on New Year's Day. Unlike last year, I've been keeping a tab of the results throughout 2019, so I should be able to give you all the results on New Year's Day this year!

So whether you've posted a list before and have updates to make, or if you've never posted before and want to get your voice heard, get your list posted in the topic in the next week! I must say, uptake seems to have been lower this year in comparison to last year, so I'll be interested to see whether this affects the results!

I also have another surprise in store, so stay tuned on New Year's Day...

Was gonna wait until after finishing my US trip reports to properly think about this but at the moment it's...

1. Steel Vengeance
2. Skyrush
3. Taron
4. Untamed
5. Magnum XL200
6. Silver Star
7. Mako
8. Phantoms Revenge
9. Phoenix
10. Nemesis

Updated list - new coasters in bold!

1. Helix - Liseberg
2. Mako - Seaworld Orlando
3. Oz'Iris - Parc Asterix
4. Wodan - Europa Park
5. Olympia Looping (various)
6. Kumba - Busch Gardens Tampa
7. Wildfire - Kolmarden
8. Nemesis - Alton Towers
9. Montu - Busch Gardens Tampa
10. Twister - Grona Lund

Same as before but EGF replaces Twister. Sad to have it removed from my top 10 :coldsweat:

Yeah pretty much
Thanks for the clarification @Ted! I don't mean to be nosy, I was only trying to make things a little clearer for my data collection!

Things are getting interesting now! So far, 15 of us have ranked 72 different roller coasters throughout 2019!

Two new entries for me this year, with Lech Coaster and Oz'Iris both impressing me a great deal. They replace Big Thunder Mountain (Paris) and Incredible Hulk in my top ten.

Hyperion and Valkyria didn't cut the mustard, whilst a return trip to Liseberg saw me shift Helix up from 4th spot into 2nd. Much better than I remembered.

1. Taron, Phantasialand
2. Helix, Liseberg
3. Wodan, Europa Park
4. Shambhala, PortAventura
*5. Lech Coaster, Legendia
*6. Oz'Iris, Parc Asterix
7. Montu, Busch Gardens Tampa
8. Manta, SeaWorld Orlando
9. Expedition Everest, Disney's Animal Kingdom
10. Blue Fire, Europa Park

Alright I'll play along
* = new cred for 2019
10 - Nemesis - Alton Towers
9 - Kraken - Sea World Orlando
8 - The Incredible Hulk - Universal IOA
7 - Kumba - Busch Gardens Tampa
6 - Sheikra - Busch Gardens Tampa
5 - Icon - BPB*
4 - Blue Fire - Europa Park*
3 - Red Force - Ferarri Land
2 - Wodan - Europa Park*
1 - Shambhala - Portaventura

Theres basically nothing between #1 & #2, Shambhala just edges it because of the trains & the views, but I was seriously weighing up whether Wodan would take top spot after a few rides.
I did my first 2 Mack launch coasters this year and preferred Blue Fire to Icon. I found the launch to be a bit more forceful & thought the inversions (especially that final roll) just added a bit more to the ride experience, plus the theming is obviously levels above.
I change my mind constantly on whether I prefer WM or Nemmy so on another day WM might crack 10th place, but based on how well Nemmy was running on my last visit it takes the spot.

I last updated my top 10 in August 2018. Since then I've been to Poland, Hong Kong, China & South Korea. I've now visited 169 parks and been on 905 roller coasters and this is my current top 10

1) Steel Vengeance, Cedar Point
2) Maverick, Cedar Point
3) i305, Kings Dominion
4) Python In Bamboo Forest, Nanchang Sunac Land
5) Wood Coaster, Knight Valley
6) Phoenix, Knoebels
7) Outlaw Run, Silver Dollar City
8) El Toro, Six Flags Great Adventure
9) Skyrush, Hershey Park
10) Eejanaika, Fuji-Q

Honourable mentions to the rides that didn't quite make the cut go to Starry Sky Ripper, Storm Chaser, Fury 325, Flying Dinosaur, Raptor & Formula Rossa

Happy new year everybody! The start of a brand new year brings many things, but one particular thing that it brings right now is... the results of TowersStreet's favourite coasters of 2019! That's right, I've done my calculations and I have this year's results. Just as a disclaimer; no, I'm not telepathic, and I didn't manage to calculate the results within minutes of 2020 starting! I must admit I did start my calculations a touch early, as there had been no signs of any last-minute lists in the thread!

So, without further ado, I may as well talk about this year's results! During 2019, 17 TowersStreet members ranked 78 different roller coasters in their lists. This is a decrease in participation from last year, and it did produce some interesting changes in the results compared to last year. So, here are the top 25, with raw and proportional changes from last year:
TowersStreet's Top 25 Roller Coasters of 2019
  1. Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point (RMC, 2018, Final Score 0.1428571429, Raw Change 0, Proportional Change -0.27 recurring)
  2. Shambhala at PortAventura Park (B&M, 2012, Final Score 0.3265306122, Raw Change +10, Proportional Change +6.6 recurring)

  18. Troy at Toverland (GCI, 2007, Final Score 2, Raw Change +5, Proportional Change -1.38 recurring)

  25. Manta at SeaWorld Orlando (B&M, 2009, Final Score 2.4 recurring, Raw Change -4, Proportional Change -9.83 recurring)
So, that's the top 25! I must say, a few of the positions did raise my eyebrows slightly, and there was certainly quite a bit of change on 2018's results! If you're wondering how I worked out the final scores, I basically calculated each ride's mean ranking by its number of riders so that I could rank the rides based on what percentage of the community influences that average opinion. If you want a little more background, here's my full spreadsheet:

Hope you enjoy the results of my little experiment! If you aren't happy with this year's results, then get posting your lists so that your opinion counts towards next year's results!

I also have a bigger surprise coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled to this thread!

So, it's now time for me to reveal the surprise I was referring to above!

As many of you may know, the beginning of 2020 is a very special new year compared to usual, as it represents not only the start of a new year, but the start of a new decade as well. With that in mind, I decided to do a broader experiment as well as my usual annual experiment... I decided to supersize my sample size and do TowersStreet's Favourite Coasters of the 2010s! Well, the data starts from 2012 as that was when this thread was first created, but I didn't think that TowersStreet's Favourite Coasters between 2012 and 2019 sounded quite as catchy!

So, I rifled through all 24 pages of this thread, and I must say, it made for very interesting reading and some even more interesting results! I must confess, I wasn't entirely sure how to do this, but in the end, I decided to go for each member's most recent post in the thread, so there is a wide range of time periods involved here!

So, I can tell you that since 2012, 96 TowersStreet members have ranked 176 different roller coasters, and here is the resulting top 25 that emerged from my calculations:
TowersStreet's Top 25 Roller Coasters of the 2010s
  1. Nemesis at Alton Towers (B&M, 1994, Final Score 0.0462 recurring)

  4. Helix at Liseberg (Mack Rides, 2014, Final Score 0.1557093426)

  25. Troy at Toverland (GCI, 2007, Final Score 0.472 recurring)
So, that's the top 25 coasters of the 2010s as voted for by TowersStreet members! If you want to see the rest of the list or get a little more background on the results, here's my full spreadsheet for your viewing pleasure:

Lastly, something I forgot to mention in my last post is that the algorithm I use is heavily inspired by one used by Pokemaniac, Hyde and Hixee from CoasterForce Forum, so I can credit them for the idea!

Hope you've enjoyed my experiments! Have a great 2020, everybody!

Big One as 13th best coaster :tearsofjoy:
3 out of the 17 members included Big One in their list, and its mean ranking was actually pretty high at 3.6, so as much as you might not agree (don't worry, I wouldn't personally rank it that highly either!), there is clearly fandom out there for the Big One!

Well done for doing those lists.
Really interesting to see things like this put together.
To be honest, putting these together is equally as interesting for me as it is for you, so I'll quite happily do it again next year!

My end of 2019 top 10:

1. Shambhala
2. Wicker Man
3. Stealth
4. Oblivion: the Black Hole
5. Saw: the Ride
6. Th13teen
7. Oblivion
8. Nemesis Inferno
9. Furius Baco
10. THE SWARM
