[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

Will be interesting to see AT work with B&M again....but I can’t see what ride type out of their current catalogue AT would go for

When the time was to come, Nemesis' area would be difficult to put a new attraction in as it was designed specifically for Nemesis. They'd have to do lots of (expensive) ground work first.

Or ... build a new attraction within the Nemesis excavation.

Yea I can see them just continuing to replace bits of the track and it will live on forever. They still manufacture everything they need too. No shortage of parts etc.

The only issue could be the foundations for the supports. They might one day need to spend some decent money on making the foundations stronger. That would be a big and tricky job though.

To be fair. The foundations are mostly set into solid rock. So, while they very may need some work in the future. The work done on them should far outlast any work needed to be done on the track.

I hope we still have Nemmy running in 30 more years. Even if all the track has been replaced and the trains are newer it would still retain its original feel for me. Its just a bloody great coaster. Nothing they could replace it with in that pit could live up to it.

Controversial statement alert: when nemesis reaches end of life how about replacing nemesis with the same layout but with a next Gen Verkoma STC instead of B&M invert. Hyper smooth with lap bars

I doubt any given STC layout will be able to replicate the intensity levels of Nemesis. Also it would effectively slash the throughput in half.

The trains on Banshee are a vast deterioration. I found them less flexible, the trains more bulky and the entire experience more cumbersome.

Whilst Banshee isn't per se a bad rollercoaster, if you get on it expecting what you would think of as a classic B&M invert, you will be sorely disappointed. It rides much more like a wing coaster. This fits with B&M's general reduction in "intense" coasters over the years (with exception to pretzel loops... which go against this!).

So, Nemesis will need work - and a lot of it. But the trains need replacing as existing, and the track the same.

I think it could be Alton Towers' next major capex project. If it isn't done by 2025 I would be shocked.

:)

Why do you say this, out of interest? While I've personally found Nemesis to have gotten slightly joltier in some of the transitions within the last year or two (the corkscrews and zero-g roll in particular definitely bashed my ears a bit last year), and this has made me rank it slightly lower than I used to, it's still pretty smooth for a coaster of its age and doesn't really vibrate noticeably against the track or bash your head about at all. Compared to Infusion at Blackpool, it feels like gliding on air!

Bits of the track have already been replaced as far as I'm aware, and surely in a time where the park will be wanting to be a little more careful with money post-Covid, a new ride (SW9) would make more sense and have a greater chance of financial returns than a major refurbishment of Nemesis, which isn't really needed at the moment, in my opinion.

If they were to do one, though, I think it would be nice if we saw some of the inversions smoothed out a bit; maybe the corkscrews and zero-g roll could be smoothed out a bit?
