Kings Island: General Discussion

Was supposed to be there in a couple of weeks. We did email the park to ask what was the chances of simply carrying over our pre-purchased admission / fast pass tickets to 2021 and they replied automatically refunding them (so I guess that was a no!)

It's definitely a park with plenty of good but not great coasters. My favourite though was Mystic Timbers.
The Beast I could appreciate for its history, I imagine riding it in 1979 must've been mind blowing though.

Kings Island is a park with a lot of good coasters but no real top coasters. The stand out coaster for me at the park is Beast, especially on the front row. Mystic Timbers is very good fun though, and Diamondback has a good first half. I found Banshee to be disappointing despite wanting to really like it!
Didn't that replace Son of Beast, the wooden rollercoaster that had a vertical loop?

Yes.

The problem with Banshee from an enthusiast perspective is that we're all used to the intensity B&M inverts are typically associated with. Despite the size and speeds it reaches, it's undoubtedly far less punchy than the rest.

I don't mind the vest restraints. There would be far less hang time through the final roll if it had the original restraints.

This. It lacked a real stand out world class coaster for me, but we had a great day there.

The Beast is a weird one, it's crap but I loved it.

Banshee was a pleasant surprise.

It has been said before, but based on the POV this ride really doesnt do very much and by the end the train just wants to keep going.

I dont know why, but the way the majority of the hills tip to the side upon cresting really irks me.

The big empty space were Vortex used to be looks so odd. Could be a while before it gets used to anything major as well.

"I thought it was okay".

"Slightly underwhelmed".

Seems expected really. I suspect Candymonium will fare better in terms of reviews.

So what coaster do you think will replace Vortex then because I’m personally predicting a copperhead strike style coaster with the same amount of theming ( people are saying Candymonium is better than Orion btw)!

Someone found and uploaded a high-res PoV of SOB, for those of you unable to tolerate 240p.

What a catastrophe of a ride. Who ever thought building something that big out of a wood was a good idea. Not least with such a dull layout. Everything about it was bad. Even in the video you can see how the trains shuffled through the corners.

We waited about 2.5 hours for this back in the day ... a quarter of the day, to be beaten up. The best part was the loop and it still sucked.

I think SoB is quite possibly a prime example of a coaster that was built with good intentions, but ultimately built a few years too early in hindsight. The wooden coaster technology available at the time wasn’t really designed for rides of that scale.

Had they built it 10-15 years later, I think RMC could very well have successfully pulled off a 200ft wooden coaster with their Topper Track technology; the likes of Wildfire and Goliath at SFGAm aren’t that far off 200ft anyway, and RMC has a rock-solid reputation as far as quality ride experiences go.

Even if they’d waited a far shorter time period of 5 years or less, until the early to mid-2000s, Intamin would probably have built them a 200ft prefab, and based on the warm reception of the existing models, I think it could have been quite the ride! Colossos at Heide opened in 2001, in fact, so even if SoB had been built a mere year or two later, it could have been far more successful.
