What changes to operations should we expect post Covid-19?

I've been into the hotel after a day in the park when Halloween entertainment is on. There is never a huge amount of people because there are other areas of the hotel, like the dining where they have other entertainment like a magician, so I think people can be quite spread out throughout both hotels.

The ship is very small, I think it's too small under normal circumstances but for the band to social distance, maybe even more so.

The tables could easily be moved around. Maybe you could add more entertainment and "book" people in to watch certain shows at time events.

If they could also get some of the band on the staircase, above the ship that would help with distancing. I'm sure for people who need to get up or down the stairs while the show is on, there must be other staircases or lifts they could use.

I think it’s anyone’s guess at the moment. I suppose they could have devised alternative entertainment that meets the distancing rules.

On the subject of selling less rooms, maybe they are, because my mum went on the website and room prices for July have apparently gone up substantially; ATH was over £500 for bed & breakfast.

As I said many times merlin will do anything that will generate income but save money at the same time. They will not run the risk of anything this year it will just be bog standard.

Is £500 a lot I take it? I've never really looked into room prices as it's not something we need living about 2 hours away. Although a lie down on a fluffy pillow would be most welcome before the drive home sometimes!

Prices for one person for a night have ranged from £42 to £672, that was for last season when I had a few tools checking.

Wow, and we thought a room in Greenwich for £220 for two people for two days was bad!

I'd love to stay there one day though, just for the experience.

£672 was an edge case, I was checking literally every single room/check-in date combination for last year.
,I've found £65-£120 about the average for a solo night, it's nothing compared to THORPE!

Prices for Towers hotels have always been high, moreso during peak days. You can catch decent(ish) prices now and again. You're paying a premium for the luxury of staying on resort and I find the newer rooms are of good quality, breakfast has improved in recent years too.

I stay every year and usually use The Sun's discount offer that comes out in March (which hasn't this year due to Covid-19). That typically brings the cost down to a more reasonable standard.

As for entertainment, it's easy for them to provide. They can do what they usually do for off-peak periods and simply have one singer on the stage.

I wouldn’t say it’s so much what entertainment they put on. But how they will safely social distance everyone if the hotel is fully booked. If holiday park’s and other sort of accommodation have already come out and said it’s not possible for them I’m just interested to see if towers hotel are able too .

All they need to do is bring in a range of measures to please any potential visiting auditor but then just allow everyone to largely ignore the measures at will, just like almost every place that has been open so far has been doing and almost every other place that will open will do. Easy.

I've seen some hotels have reduced room capacity to lessen the number of customers within the building, so there's a possibility Towers could/might go down that route (I highly doubt they've sold out any dates just yet, as they only tend to be fully booked at the end of Scarefest/during Fireworks).

However as Barry puts it all Towers need to do is fit out the public spaces with social distancing in mind (markers on the floor, tables and chairs with 2m gaps etc) and leave guests to it.

Yes that sounds a great plan! !! Do you guys not realise that the R number is tipping over 1 in the north west . With that behaviour you will cause lockdown 2 with alton then not opening for the rest of the year. Overall result Merlin will fold. Well done! The general public just don't seem to get this social distancing and limited numbers in a shop situation. All they care about is themselves!

merlin won’t fold. They will just offload assets first and then rebuild from their. But yes so many people will break the 2m rules unfortunately the general public can’t be trusted so to speak. But it can’t be helped unfortunately just have to wait and see what happens.

Apparently Boris wants to reduce the 2m rule down to 1m ASAP so that pubs and schools can operate more effectively. I’d assume that this will help Towers?

Besides, with regard to the North West’s R number, that was only one study out of many where it was above 1; the government themselves cite the range as being between 0.7 and 0.9. Besides, it’s the numbers of cases we need to be looking at, which are ever decreasing; provided the NHS isn’t at risk of being overwhelmed, nothing will happen in terms of lockdown.

From watching that, it would appear as though you can only ride alone on the coasters then, looking at the "do not use" signs on alternate seats. What if you're with family? I'm sure it'll be more clear when it actually opens but that video seems a bit confusing.
And if this is the case at Alton Towers, what about RAP users who apparently need someone to accompany them on the rides?

I would guess they tell you to ignore the sign at sit there anyway?

I did think that - it would make more sense to leave alternate rows empty. Most people will be visiting with other people from their household and they're allowed to be together. Maybe it's a local regulation imposed by the authorities?
