Alton towers have updated where face masks are mandatory across the resort in line with new government guidance which launches from the 8th august. (I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet).

“Guests over the age of 11* will be required to wear a face mask in order to go on a number of rides and rollercoasters, and within any indoor space including queues, gift shops, indoor rides and attractions, and hotel lobbies. This advice is in line with the latest UK Government regulations across England which will come in to place from the 8th August.”

They have scrapped the previous age of 6 years old for the rollercoasters and now its 11+ for all settings.

Shops, indoor spaces and rides. Isn't that the same as what they're doing right now?

Now includes indoor queueing spaces, hotel lobbies and arcades, which weren’t included before.

It’s basically been included to include every indoor public space, which is in line with the new government guidelines from 8th august that masks will be mandatory in all indoor spaces bar when sitting down and dining.

Not all indoor spaces yet thankfully, but I understand why Towers are taking precautions.

In my opinion it’s a good thing and should have been done sooner - a full list of where masks are mandatory from 8th august is available on the government website- but is practically every enclosed public space(so includes hairdressers, barbers, arcades, museums, places of worship, theatres, cinemas etc etc).

Fantastic news! Surely ride close extensions, as well as the removal of midweek closed days and the extension of Oktoberfest, must be a sign that business has been very good (or at least, better than expected) since reopening, which is promising in itself?

Not to mention that the guests visiting get an extra hour of riding!

I just think they're trying to make up for the massive loss from March to present. I wouldn't have expected to see any of this if 2020 had been a regular year.

I assume guests will be able to scan their phones directly on the turnstile scanner for the passes like is already possible for online day tickets?

Can we still use our physical pass though as I booked ages ago for tommorow and haven't received any sort of digital pass thing
