The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

I think it looks promising so far and a cool little kids dark ride!

The problem is this is the flagship attraction for an area not just one small little ride. If this was added along side another new ride (not another repaint of the Frog Hopper) it would be fine. They really should have either used a bigger building for this or done 2 to 3 new attractions. There are enough unused buildings in that area!

If only there was a larger building with a ready made dark ride transit system nearby....:confused1:

I like the idea of the attraction and the book it's based upon but it simply isn't big enough to be the flagship attraction in a brand new area.

They've undoubtedly made the best they can of a bad situation, but I fear this will lead to many parents being hacked off at queuing an exorbitant amount of time for it.

Do we think they'll even risk opening it while social distancing is still in place? That would halve the already dreadful capacity.

It looks good from the video but the ride itself seems to be embarrassingly short. It actually reminds me a lot of the little dark ride they have at some of the LEGOLAND Discovery Centres.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic, and I really look forward to seeing the completed product!

It wouldn't surprise me if they got quite late through the planning stages to transform CCL into a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre actually. The ride offering for the whole area is very close to the other DCs and perhaps a walkthrough attraction was planned for the old Nick building? That would've essentially turned that corner of the park into a midway attraction showcase with the dungeons being located nearby.

I think a Lego 'land' would work really well for Alton to be honest, especially in the Clounf Cuckoo Land area. You could have a Factory Tour ride in Gangsta Granny, a drop tower, use the 4D cinema and have a Lego Driving School and carousel, as well as a large Lego store. It would have been a perfect fit. But ah well, we've got what we've got.

Has your account been hacked, old boy ?
Hey if it's good it's good, hopefully it turns out that way.

I like that it's a small fun ride for kids, the park could do with that, and it suits an IP (if they really have to).

It will probably be promoted like a headline ride, but I just ignore the hype.

Still feel the park is lacking a really big family ride like an updated Toyland or Black Hole

For a very small little dark ride, this will be fine. The problem is this is the headline attraction of a new, IP area at Alton Towers. The capacity will be 1/3 of Duel and 1/2 Hex. The queues will be horrendous for what is a very small ride. The views from the rear of the ride vehicles looks questionable at best. It isn't going to be worth the waiting time when you can just "walk on" Duel or wait 15-20 minutes for Hex.

The Alton Towers of the 1990s simply wouldn't have entertained a ride like this getting a capacity of sub 500-per hour. Possibly more like 3-400 per hour. I am sure the team behind it are committed and will have tried their very best with a pitiful Merlin capex budget but because the ride system was cheap/made for elsewhere, the park are just "putting up" with its pitfalls. It shows where Alton Towers is currently with its investment level. Low.

The area needs a larger, outdoor ride. A new Waveswinger, please.

On Garmendale’s website the capacity for the Spin Master (this model) is listed as being between 659 and 985 riders per hour. (Ride vehicles are available with 4, 6 or 8 seats, the ride at Alton Towers has the largest option with 8 seats per vehicle.) There is also a birds eye view of the Gangsta Granny ride layout with 7 ride vehicles on the circuit at once. With 8 riders per vehicle, this means that 56 riders can be on the ride at any one time.

It unequivocally won't get anywhere near 900 an hour. The dispatching simply cannot be frequent enough.
Garmendale's website states that the model can operate up to 20 cars. 900pph would be with a number of cars closer to 20.
It also states it can take a minimum of 8 cars, so that's how many GG will probably have.

With 8 riders, that would mean a dispatch just over every 30 seconds (a dispatch every 30 seconds would equal 960 riders per hour), which I don’t think is unattainable by any stretch. It doesn’t take long to check and send a relatively car of 8 people. Rides like Spinball, Duel and CRR manage to attain relatively quick dispatches in a similar multi-car context; although I’m unsure whether this has the constantly moving station setup of those rides, I’m sure it still wouldn’t take that long to check and send a car that’s relatively small, especially given that the ride allegedly has no restraint system.

It is unattainable. Rides have to pass through scenes, which have a set duration. The scene then must rest before the next ride car enters the scene. Given the extremely short track, the ride vehicles will be making their way through these scenes extremely slowly.

If you think this ride will achieve any kind of respectable throughput, you are wholly mistaken.

God knows how many ride cars this can even operate?

It says that the speed of the cars is 1m/s, for some reference as to how quickly the cars will be moving. How does this compare to something like Duel, for example?
