Media Coverage of Alton Towers

The brakes failed but she managed to stop safely?

I'm now gonna watch this just to see what really happened, come back and talk to me when you've had a proper brake failure Vicky, you don't 'stop safely' with those, you keep going until something solid stops you.

Wow, you guys are as bad as the Rags. Maybe you would have preferred it if she hadn't survived the Smiler?

No, not at all, I wouldn't wish what has happened on anyone let alone death to my worse enemy.

She is just someone that seems to love being in the media, wanted the Smiler never to reopen again. Now she nearly had a near death experience with a car, why isn't she now banging on about banning cars too?

Just watched that part of the program.
A over heat brake fade is scary as anything when you are not trained on what to do when it happens.
And i doubt she would be trained in advance driving methods.
So yes. I can see why she so shook up.

I hope she is ok after the car incident. Will be interesting to see if any papers (daily mail, sun) pick up on it and try to twist it back on AT

Vicky Balch has had a baybee, giving the shitrags which i wont link to an opportunity to mention the smiler crash multiple times.

Whilst I am not a fan of children, and am apathetic to the woman as I do not know her, I feel we can be above throwing insults around on here, especially when the lady herself isn't here to defend herself from them.

The papers will always find a way to twist it, there is very little that is newsworthy about our hobby to those outside of our hobby and what sells is either decent journalism or weaving words in a way to gain controversy. I'll let you make your own mind up which you think this is. Personally, I'm surprised to find they have ability to turn a pc on, let alone type this coverage.

I see, I'm used to seeing baybee and various other connotations of ****rags used to describe such things. My comments on the media still stand.

There is no insult at her there at all, if you've found one that's all on you.

It's purely a comment on the media and the lengths they will go to use tenuous stories to drag this incident out for financial gain, which by this point is pure clickbait, for all of time.

She has a media profile, like it, or not. People are famous for far less these days.

If there is a story about her, it feels like a natural thing to mention. If Simon Cowell got hit by a bus, they'd mention X Factor.

I don't know why it touches nerves, it happened.

I suppose it touches nerves because we can see just how...poorly everything is portrayed. The combination of it being in the red tops and with The Smiler being the biggest theme park story in the country in a very very long time, if ever, means it's the easy way out.

I would be interested to know how she feels about the media coverage, I doubt it's particularly welcome and I think she probably wants to not just be "Smiler Crash victim"

Although i am not overly bothered by it myself, I think it's fair enough for enthusiasts of the park to find it touches nerves when the park is in the media in a negative way. Totally agree that it's going to be mentioned, but it's also fair enough for people here to get annoyed by it.

Rupert Murdoch and his copycats need no prompting. I wish the lass all the luck in the world, but she is valuable tabloid subject matter for many more years to come. Nothing proves this more than The Sun regularly going with stories about her, despite risking upsetting their commercial partners Merlin.
