The only view of the Towers which Oblivion possibly blocks is that from the road, although I'm not sure if the geography would ever have allowed for such a view.

Maybe I am missing something, but either neither is Spinball. Granted it looks close in some spots, but never in front of them. I have checked streeview and still cannot find anything more offensive than X sector is to towers. If there is a specific angle that blocks the towers vistas, as in, Spinball appearing infront of the towers, then I will stand corrected. But I haven't found it.
 
It's an essential attraction for me. It's not pretty, not well themed and the location is questionable. But it's fun, inclusive for older families and I think it plays an important role in the park lineup. I've never understood the view of those calling for its demise.

Given the fact that Oblivion, The Smiler, Rita and Thirteen are all located closer to the Towers than Spinball is. Does that make it a crime for them also?

I'm just trying to understand, I am confident alot of the hate towards Spinball comes from purely that the ride is disliked quite a lot. As I am yet to hear a valid substantial argument. As all arguments put forward are true for other rides which do not get the same stick. Makes for an interesting discussion though!

The argument is baseless. I can see modern rides from the courtyard, another historic building. I can view the Chinese fountain and will always have the Skyride in view above.

Yes I understand that the towers view is the most spectacular, but, when you can see other large rides from the park within the same general area, but are never mentioned. The argument falls somewhat flat on it's face.

If the argument being put forward is that the towers are front facing. Then the only place in that area where the towers are the most front facing relative to where you are, is a point where you can see 2 other large rides at the park.

This is why Spinball will also never be used as bargaining chip. Local authorities and the historic bodies in England would much rather swap a deal with the park where stuff is restored / rebuilt, in return for a planning deal for future development.

Trying to trade the removal of a ride in return for planning permission is kind of backwards. As a deal like that does nothing to preserve the historic importance of the place. The buildings need alot of work and deals that actually restore parts of them will always favour a deal to restore a Vista which can be done anytime. Once the towers collapse through lack of preservation, that is is. They are gone, for good. Luckily the planners see this now. The vista means nothing, if there is nothing to see because it's collapsed due to age.

Spinball will be traded for planning permission at some point (it was going to be for the cross valley coaster before the Smiler accident shelved those plans). But it isn’t because of the impact on the heritage side of things. It’s because the residents of Farley hate it as it’s so noisy.

When they next want to do something up near the valley they will offer up spinball as a sacrificial lamb (and it will probably end up being installed in a Lego Park).

Would fit quite well in a Legoland park. Could theme it to the Spinjitzu series. :)
 
I would expect Legoland Windsor would have the same issue with noise, that's why they previously got rid of the Technic jungle coaster.

Would love to see a similar ride but indoors, like Crush's Coaster at WDSP go in at Alton Towers. Pretty sure it could be done next to the Cred Street theatre area and making it indoors deals with the noise issues.

I agree! I always said that I thought relocating Spinball to TWODW and putting it inside a warehouse would be a great decision for the park, but that might not be the most practical option, as Spinball hasn’t got the easiest layout to enclose.

Maybe a Mack spinning coaster, like Storm Chaser at Paultons, would work better? Storm Chaser has a theoretical capacity of 1,000pph (although that being said, Spinball’s is 950pph, so it may not be too much different), and the Sierra Sidewinder model (the layout of Storm Chaser) has been enclosed before at IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai.
 
Weirdly if they were to just relocate Spinball, it would make sense to put it at Thorpe. They don't have as many noise issues really and it would add another 1.2m ride which the park is somewhat lacking in. Whack some Angry Birds graphics on and job done.

Yes I think he compared it to winjas but not sure. It for sure would have been cool it would have added to the theme and actually made the ride immersive as I presume it would have been done in a tunnel with special effects.

If Spinball was relocated and enclosed in a building a trick-track section could be added maybe.
