Scarefest 2021

Yes - I was in the first ever group on Terror of the Towers when its first incarnation launched in 2002, and have been obsessed since! (Was a member of various AT forums years ago, but missed engaging with fellow AT nerds hence re-registering).
So jealous of this! I would have loved to see how scarefest developed over the years, I only went in my first scare maze in 2019

Same as me actually! Which one was your first? Mine was Darkest Depths.
I'm pretty sure it was Project 42! I put off going in them for years because I was terrified when I went on Sub terra (I was like 10 allow it) but I was convinced to go in them by my friends and I loved them

I do remember screaming "don't ****ing touch me bruv!" at an actor in Project 42 who grabbed my leg the second time I went on it though and I felt very bad straight away hahaha

Towers have recently advertised for scare actors, and the advert could hint at the maze lineup!...

That literally looks like they have just copied and pasted the same job advert from a few years back, House of Monsters has been gone for a while.

I mean I wouldn't read into that? House of Monsters and Sub Species are on there for a start.

Yeah they must be really banking on social distancing going if they're planning to bring Sub Species back!

We'll find out for sure though when the mazes are officially announced nearer the time. :)

I mean I wouldn't read into the advert because House of Monsters and Sub Species are both on there, it'd be underwhelming for a start if we had SS and AMT again, can't see House of Monsters coming back either. It does just look like a copy and paste job to me.

The Attic is very much still all there as far as I can tell (except for the downstairs bit). I was in the towers the other day and you can see all the finale set up still. And all the props from the downstairs section are in the old sanctuary first room.

Also all the mine tours props and theming is still set up outside. So that could be coming back.

In previous years we have actually had line ups announced for scarefest in July, so maybe we will soon. Or I guess the park might be playing it safe and awaiting COVID rules again.

Traditionally the towers used to close towards the end of August and that was when they took all the mazes down each year. Some past years the towers have closed in May or even earlier for scarefest prep, so maybe they’ll also shut soon.

This will be an interesting year in terms of line-up. My biggest questions are whether we see the return of a higher intensity maze like Sub Species as part of the line-up, whether we see a return of 4 thrill mazes and 1 family maze (I believe it was 2019 which was the last year we had 4 thrill & 1 family before it dropped to 3 thrill and 1 family last year), and if there are any changes to Mine Tours. Then there's the obvious questions around COVID and whether there is any deviation from the safety rules and regulations that were in place last year, despite so-called 'freedom'. I guess that would fall down to consumer attitude towards COVID safety precautions undertaken by businesses at the moment.

I would expect (and hope) to see a new maze this year, which would follow the general pattern of at least one new maze every Scarefest since 2015.

I’d hope that after the success of Mardi Gras and its stage areas, they’re seriously considering having roaming ents teams with their own themed stage for Scarefest. The Ancestors are great but some themed “scare” zones would be a great way to add value to the event. As long as they’re in places families can avoid if they wish to. I’ll knock up a map to show where these could go and post shortly :)

Or mix of full-on scare zones that you need to enter but also some small stages (like Mardi Gras) with more family friendly or slightly scarey stuff.

I think paid entry to scare zones is absolutely the wrong move. They need to be free, and located in such a way that they can be avoided if needed. I think the best route would be three scare zones (FV, DF, and WM plaza) and then the additional family stages at MB and KC. This is alongside the main ents that we’ve seen on the lawns.
