Flamingo Land: General Discussion

Generally speaking when you at the opening day/event of a new attraction you can very easily get caught in the hype of it all. Everyone is excited, you're doing something new, chances are you're going to have a pretty good time all round. It can be hard to take a step back and look at something for what it really is.

Sik does actually look good. Is it going to be the best coaster in the UK? No. Is it going to be one of the better coasters in the UK? Probably. However that likely says far more about the coasters we have in the UK than anything else.

Wonder why the entrance turnstile has a scanner? 🤔

It's probably going to be an up charge
Yeah that's what I think. Wouldn't be a great move though at all in my opinion; Would be very unpopular. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen, but I can't think of any other reason for the scanner and turnstile. Better get those rides in this season just in case. Plus the accessible entrance it does look like it has space for a gate, which would make sense of there was an upcharge.

While anything could happen, I highly doubt Flamingo Land would go down the upcharge route. As @Enter Valhalla said, charging for coasters is very uncommon (possibly even alien) in pay one price parks, so I’m not sure they’d want to do that.

Surely they’d have done it as an upcharge from day 1 if it was going to be one?

My guess is that it exists for some sort of crowd flow management as you enter the queue (similarly to why RMT has one on the exit), but that admittedly doesn’t explain why it has a scanner… perhaps the scanner was just part of the turnstile they ordered?

Yeah it's more likely for some sort of virtual queue, although it's interesting that the screen says "free passage". Time will tell, though.

The early reviews seem incredibly positive. As awful as the name is and the overall lacklustre marketing / ride launch....it certainly appears to ride well going off what I'm reading.

Wonder where this will rank for people in terms of UK coasters......

I don’t think it will be an up charge as this is the biggest ride flamingo land have ever added and to make it an up charge would mean fewer guests riding it. Saying that the queue is quite small and i would’ve thought it would’ve been longer than it is. So maybe it could be but i highly highly doubt it

It's more likely going to have a virtual queue eventually, That's the more realistic explanation for the turnstile and scanner.

I think this must be for possible virtue queue and other events, I suppose it's better to have the functionality in case you ever want to use it, especially if they got it as a deal with other turnstiles around the park. I really hope they don't go down the upcharge route in the future because that really would be daylight robbery.

Timed qbuster tickets.
I thought this originally, but the turnstile leads to the main entrance (there are a few switchbacks before it splits into main and single). If it is added to the Que Buster or VIP pass those would probably use the accessible queue as there doesn't appear to be a dedicated entrance like first thought (and the exit has a turnstile too).

I think only SIK uses those turnstiles atm, although they could well have bought more for the other big rides.

That's what I mean, maybe they're planning to have events or something, let's hope it's just a functionality that they want for functions and private hiring's rather than to upcharge.

Interestingly, I’m not sure media event bias is necessarily leading to Sik’s positive reviews like some suggest. Andy Rumney from Coaster Crazy has just posted his vlog reviewing it, and he has rated it as his 3rd favourite UK coaster, behind Icon and Swarm:

For clarity, he was not invited to the media event, and seemed to have an axe to grind about the fact he wasn’t invited based on his vlog, so there’s certainly no media day bias there.
