The Queen dies, aged 96. The future of the monarchy

To give the family time to say goodbye and mourn. She is a human being after all, and wouldn’t you want to say goodbye to a loved one before everyone knows about their death?
That is very true… but that doesn’t explain the statement and all of the morbid reporting beforehand. Surely they’d let the family grieve in private for a few hours and then just announce her death once adequate time has elapsed rather than doing the whole build up on the news?

With Philip, didn’t we just receive the announcement of his death? Or am I wrong there?

Black clothing in the media, a BBC reporter tweeting that the Queen had died and then having to delete it and backtrack, something about notes being passed around in parliament. Family at the bedside. We're at the end here.

The last official photograph of her will be granting Truss a government will it not?

I’m not a big royal but I liked the Queen. While she may have lived a privileged life, she also lived every minute of her life in the public spotlight something many of us would struggle with especially for 70 years and she never put a foot wrong. That’s some achievement.

She has worked harder than any other of the royals, right up to just 2 days ago seeing in the new prime minister at 96 years old. She might have even known she was dying on that day but she still did it.

Despite not being a royalist, I can’t help feel some sadness today that she has died.

My youngest daughter is most put out that she can’t be the next queen and that we will have a king in her place next. “Kings are rubbish” apparently.

96 is a good age and she lived a good and privileged life. I hope her passing was quick and painless for her. Although she was never going to live forever it feels weird that the time has come, I had a soft spot for the queen despite not really being fussed on the royals overall. I felt a wave of sadness when I read the news that she’d died, completely involuntary, I didn’t think I’d feel much of anything when she died.

Not completely convinced on the Legoland move I have to say. But maybe that's just me.

Just thought, I'm going to be seeing a queen tribute band tonight at Butlins (seen them before, they are excellent), and fake Brian May does the God Save The Queen guitar bit. I reckon I'm going to get my first God save the King in just a couple of hours after it became our new theme tune.

Please let us know if that's the case!
