Exactly this... we headed to the hotel to shelter from the rain Friday and were going go cough up the fee for a drink.. just the one guy in front of us. We walked off after waiting too long.

Thing is, it’s nothing new. The service has been slow ever since I’ve been visiting the hotels, and that’s more than ten years. It’s almost as if the staff are trained to be the slowest they could possibly be. Which is so weird when everything else at Merlin is trying to get as much money as possible.
 
Just done an over night stay at ATH. Stayed in an arctic explorer room. Here are my thoughts.

The room itself was okay. It was clean, nothing was broken. I really liked the design of the carpets and the overall theming of the room. Only issue we came across was there was no spoon for the tea and coffee facilities. Nothing that couldn’t be sorted by a quick trip to reception. But still for the price you pay you kind of expect the t’s to be crossed and the i’s to be dotted. Not a huge deal though in the grand scheme of things.

The beds were what let it down for me really, maybe I’m just too used to my own bed and I do admit I often struggle with sleeping away from home for the first night or so. But the beds weren’t the most comfortable, even my kids said they weren’t very comfortable and they usually don’t complain about things like that. I didn’t sleep very well and woke when ever my partner moved and he woke when ever I moved, which made today on park a bit of a challenge for us due to tiredness. Had better sleeps at Premier Inn’s and Hilton’s in the past paying far less. Pillows were a bit flat too, suppose I could have asked for extras if I really wanted to.

We didn’t bother with the bar or entertainment as it was gone 9.30 by the time we’d made our way back to the hotel and we were all tired. Heard a few door slams and people talking loudly in the corridors, this didn’t go on for too late though. Noticed the centrepiece downstairs from the lobby was very dusty when looking at it from above, not a great look.

Breakfast was just okay, we were seated quickly at our pre booked time of 8.30. My other half and one of the kids had some of the cooked stuff and said it was fine. I had some pancakes and they could have been better, they were cold. The bottle of syrup was sticky which made my hands sticky. They ran out of cups at one point so had to wait to get a hot drink or juice. Also saw a disturbing amount of people (adults who should know better and kids) using their hands to pick up food items rather than the tongs provided, not really Towers’ fault though, people are gross.

Staff we came across were friendly. Other half took the kids into the arcade to spend a few 2p’s and said a lot of the machines were broken, didn’t surprise me.

Was it worth the £260-odd we paid for one night? No probably not. I don’t think we’ll be coming to stay over night again in a hurry unless we spot a particularly good deal. If I’d travelled from further away and didn’t have the luxury of visiting towers often (we’re about 1hr 20 drive) I’d probably feel a bit more aggrieved. There is a lot they could do to make the experience better value for money. Charging less would be a good start.
 
This hotel was booked in March I believe before the horror that is the new low of this season was known. Also it's just easier when half cut

Blood stains have clearer boundaries, turds tend to smudge more at the edges.

At least the nursing home that you live in has wipe clean mattresses now
 
The worse bit is that's the side that had been on the bottom of the mattress.

The issue is that the location of AT means alternative hotels that allow you to drink on park are very difficult to find.

It's nice to stop and drink especially on busier events.
 
Just the one coffee machine working in SGR yesterday morning, meaning very long queues.

We also went for lunch at SGR on Sunday due to options on park being limited. The food itself was fine but it took us 90 minutes to have a one course lunch. Shockingly slow service.

When we were in, there was 0 machines working for a bit. Went well.
 
I wasn't planning on having a coffee anyway as even from the newer machines it's pretty poor. Went for a cuppa instead.
 
Also on Sunday morning in SGR as well as just the one (our of 3) coffee machines working, there was only 1 (out of 2) coke drinks machines working and 1 (out of 2) toasters working!

Overall I would say the bar service was pretty good Sunday night, they even extended until midnight! The staff were very friendly and nice, but my god it’s so slow for cocktails. I must have waited 15 minutes whilst they searched hi and low for various ingredients for the cocktail I ordered.

Also a few guests kicking off that there is no where to get food after 10pm. Your usual option would be pizzas in splash, but with splash closed and pizzas and room service stopping at 10pm, there was literally nothing. The manager actually told the guest you’ll be best ringing just eat or someone.
