[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

Not keen on the ride being named Nemesis Reborn but I cling to hold that it’s for marketing and relaunch purposes and not a permanent change. This ride is legendary and known throughout the world - think of the confusion it could cause.

I’m starting to think we’ve been sold a lie throughout all this refurbishment work. “The Nemesis as we know it won’t change” according to Wardley, so that should go for the possible track colour change, theme change and name change.

Honestly, if Merlin completely ruin the original with the above mentioned, I shall never forgive them for this work. So far, it seems to be heading that way, now that they’ve got their greasy paws on it.

When it comes to that quote, I think this is regarding just the track layout which technically speaking if he was talking about that then he wasn't lying...just left out the theming aspect which I suppose has led to this.

All I'm hoping for is not an all black track and support coloured coaster for at least it to have a secondary colour in which I could tolerate that if we get this black track.

You shouldn't really blame Wardley. I am sure he is under an NDA, and he was probably just trying to please us enthusiasts. Imagine the outcry if he said 'Nemesis is changing. The theme will be different, along with the track colour, and it will have a moniker under its name as well'!

I don’t blame Wardley, but I am starting to feel sick at Merlin’s treatment of such an iconic rides future. I’ve aired my views on this forum already about how Merlin have fabulously ruined some great attractions Tussauds originally put in…I now fear Nemmie is heading down the same route, and it’s starting to pain me.

TBH they couldn't do any worse with Bubbleworks when it became Gruffalo even though you can say it wasn't much better.

Dungeons I feel isn't permeant which neither is worse or better than Charlie though others might argue with that.

I mean, had Merlin not intervined and done this work there would be no Nemesis at all in a few years. That sort of makes your point mute.

*cracks knuckles*. I know @QTXAdsy has already posted and mentioned some of the points I'm about to mention, but just like Mastermind...I've started so I'll finish. I'm gonna post one more time on this subject to try and put this to bed, as I feel you're missing what was actually said by John at TT@20 (I'm assuming this is the quote you're referring to) and just constantly picking one specific phrase to suit what you believe was said. To put it bluntly, no one has been "sold a lie".

The full quote reveals that the actual reference of "Nemesis as we know it will not change" was part of an answer talking about the ride itself, not the whole experience (theming etc):
John Wardley - TT@20 said:
There’s nothing I would do to change the profile of the ride. Yes times have moved on in terms of technology. So there will be, if and when the project goes ahead, there will be changes made. You can rest assured that the ride as you know it will not change. It will still be the same thrilling ride. It will run as smoothly as it ever did on the first day it opened. It will be as fast, or even faster than ever.
Now if you consider that wider answer, it's clear he was fully aware, and in fact stated that there would be some changes made to Nemesis. However the way the coaster rides and behaves would not change.

Now let's look at his answer to a question about what potential changes could be made:
John Wardley - TT@20 said:
That really is up to John Burton. I think if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I think it’ll be unwise to start adding bells and whistles that are not needed. The ride delivers, and it delivers extremely well and it’s just a case of freshening it up and creating a really spick and span ride. I think the worst thing they can do is de-emphasise the ride proper and add unnecessary bells and whistles to it. But I think John will come up, well I know he’s already working on various ideas which will make the presentation of the ride even better.
Of course what you want to define as "bells and whistles" is up for discussion. Regardless of that, to me it's very clear from his comments that there was an awareness that there would be changes made to Nemesis and it wasn't going to be rebuilt exactly as it was.

Now if you're not referring to TT@20, there were other quotes during interviews with him when the ride closed, which again to me is a reference to how the coaster rides more than anything else. Again, it also hints at changes:
John Wardley said:
What I can tell you is everything that everybody loves about Nemesis. The sensation, the thrills of Nemesis none of that will change, but you’ve got a little bit more on top.
Now it's abundantly clear that you don't agree with the changes being made, as you've pointed out in your posts. However, to suggest you've been lied to I feel is incorrect, as in those comments above he is pretty much confirming that things would be different when the ride eventually reopens.

The ride is quite literally having millions spent on it to keep it going. To say they're "ruining" an iconic ride when they're spending that much money on it and without seeing much of a hint of the end product bar a difference in track colour and a potential minor name change is a crazy comment in my opinion.

I don't mind if it has Reborn tacked onto it. We'll all still call it Nemesis, in the same way as I don't go reeling off HEX: The Legend of the Towers or RITA: Queen of Speed. Like it or not, for this amount of money to be spent on an attraction, they simply must have a new selling point. If that's through a theme change, colour change or name change then so be it. If the end product is decent and it keeps the ride going for another few decades, then I'm all for it.

This work cannot be cheap. It's not like the TLC where it was a much smaller cost spread over multiple years. As much as I love Nemesis, I can take or leave the white paint job and looking from a realistic point of view, outside the entrance tower, bus and station there isn't much in terms of themeing, it just works as it's in the pit.

For this spend to be justified, it has to be marketable. A well themed black track, a new slogan/secondary name and maybe a new themeing piece if they go down that route would be a nice spruce up that can be marketed.

I come from the view of being a massive Nemesis and Invert fan but let's not be blind to what's actually there and isn't. Tampering with the layout would be criminal, changing some paint probably won't (unless they paint it badly, please look after it Towers)

Nemesis 2 - Nemmie Harder

@Craig has pretty much nailed it there, and just goes to show what happens when quotes are taken out of context or to heart.

Vagueness is out the window and parks need to be more attention grabbing. And deep down underneath the new track and whatever Phalanx silliness they bolt onto it it'll still be a Nemesis we can enjoy for years more.

Adding a tiny tagline to a coaster isn't ruining the ride.
Changing the track colour is treading wobbly ground changing the look & theme (to be better or worse depending on your view), but not ruining the ride.

But we know this really, we know a few fans are going to overreact but would surely grow out of it.

I just hope they handle the new Nemesis with the same care and imagination they did originally, or more, to keep it as entertaining as it can be.

Moving the topic on somewhat.

Merlin have a formula for there coasters. They all seem to have a major theming element which the coaster interacts with.

With this in mind, can we see this with nemesis, and if so what could we see?

Personally, I feel the station does this job, but I wouldn't be shocked if something was installed.

If something went in, I reckon it'd be the turn around after the zero G. Not sure what it would be though. You have the station and the bus already and the bit leading to the first inversion has a great view of the station as well

The only new theming I'd want in Forbidden Valley isn't really new at all; it would be the return of 'Nemesis Nosh'.
