Thorpe Park: General Discussion

It seems both of these are ran externally and not by Aramark as magic money isn’t accepted and pass discount is 10% which is the same for all non Aramark outlets at Thorpe.

Where did you see this? On the app it shows Magic Money accepted and 20% discount for me, for both Planet Doughnut and Harbor Desserts

And so begins @Alix's scorched earth policy. Never shall the cat and chimp visit again.

I'm sure that Donut Time used to give 20%, but perhaps I'm wrong. I wasn't aware that Burger King gave 10% though.

Burger King give nothing and KFC don’t. But the outlets ran by Pineapple give 10% which was added at some point last season. Like the chocolate place near Hyperia, most of the mobile vans/shipping containers, etc.

It was showing as 10% earlier and I saw a site report it, but I’ve just looked now and it has changed on the app to 20%.

Planet Doughnut is a different company, they seem similar to Doughnut Time (Now rebranded as Rodeo). Hopefully just as good because Doughnut Time were very good!

Yeah most things where up aside from stealth which I don't think they tried to open (for stone reason they opened tidal wave which was as popular as you might expect). A few minutes of down time here and there but nothing major. Generally good ops on the rides (walk ons aside from hyperia where they were getting good dispatches). Park looked to be in good condition with small touch ups. But disappointed they didn't do anything new for the season but generally speaking it was a great trip.

Zodiac and Walking dead did open for brief periods of time. I actually got a lights on ride of Walking dead which was a bit rubbish.

Great day at Thorpe for passholder preview today. Park was quiet-ish, but all (open) coasters were running maximum capacity. Park feels much nicer and fresher than Alton at the moment.

Hyperia is still having issues, Thorpe were good at fixing it quickly today but still not ideal. Queue line speakers still seem quite broken sadly, it was very quiet.

Compared to the literal ****show that Alton Towers was yesterday, Thorpe today was a breath of fresh air!

I second the other two responses and agree firsthand that the Thorpe Passholder Day is completely a contrast to the Alton Towers Opening Day.

Everything was pretty much walk on except Hyperia (even rides that are never walk on like Ghost Train and Storm Surge).

The ride availability was good - Hyperia was running well even with hiccups throughout the day and a delay in starting operations at the start of the day.

The rides that were closed were Stealth which I saw engineers working on it from Tidal Wave mid afternoon. There was an issue on Friday which it didn't operate on Saturday and today.

The rides that didn't operate for majority of the day was Walking Dead and Zodiac.

Numbers were capped though so it may have been the difference. I'd say Alton could've done better if they did a Staff Family and Friends day followed by Buyout Days and a Passholders Day for soft openings before an official opening later in the month.

Although if Thorpe did an after dark event from 10-8/9, it may have been more successful due to closer proximity between rides for engineering to go between and the fact it may not have the same issues as Alton with engineering (i.e. recruitment, retention, caseloads). I don't know 100% for sure but that's my guess.

Was also there today and had a great day. Pretty much no queues all day apart from Hyperia.

Ride availability was pretty good across the board and everything running good capacity.

Hyperia had loads of shutdowns (I saw 5+) with trains stopping on the lift but they were all dealt with very quickly. Engineers attended and it was back up within 10 minutes each time.

Something I noticed on Hyperia, they no longer send empty test trains when it goes down. Think we all know why that is. So once engineers have attended and its back in operation they just start loading the trains again.

Stealth was actually open on 2 trains on Friday but unfortunately an issue was found during morning testing yesterday and has been closed since. Not much activity today and no trains on the circuit so imagine its waiting for a part.

Zodiac has also been open this season but was cycling pretty much non stop today by tech services.

I saw a train on the offload station from Tidal Wave this afternoon with Engineers about 2pm approximately

It didn't seem hopeful that it would run though.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare at this point considering this wasn’t a full public opening.

Does bode well that Thorpe appear to be running considerably more preview days and with almost all rides operating.

Both parks have run 2 preview days.

For a Passholder day seems very quiet. Most must've been at Towers.
I believe the Thorpe one was actually sold out - I'd say they were sensibly capping numbers.

Another factor is that the Hyperia is still going strong so a lot of the guests there were riding Hyperia with a lot of the other rides being very quiet as a result. That ride was the one ride with the biggest wait all day.

Ridiculous how slowly that Hyperia queue moves tbh even with minimal FT users. Done it twice yesterday and went home to watch the football.

Such a shame they didn't spend a few more ££ on something with a higher capacity. Short term it can push FT sales but long term it can put people off returning.
