[🌎 Universal GB] General Discussion

I think it’s all about cultural osmosis; people would’ve had to watch Lord Of the Rings to have a pretty stable idea of what’s going on, it’s so ingrained in our culture it’s just straightforward to us.

I would say Lord Of the Rings would be a great idea, although looking at this park, I don’t think it’s fit. Of course, it’ll be better themed than all other parks in the UK buy to do LOtR justice you really need a Pandora or Galaxy’s edge.

Expansion? Maybe. They’re being wise here by not going all in all now
 
LOTR makes alot of sense in the absence of Harry Potter but they would have to go all out to make it work.

I think dark Universe is inevitable at some point as well

Ghostbusters is great and if be all for a ride but it's a brand that's been damaged over the years by sequels and spin offs of mixed quality.

If there is any basis to the speculation of a BTTF ride then I think quite a few people are vastly underestimating how popular it will be to the British public. 80s nostalgia is ripe in the Gen Z / Millennial generation, and love for franchises like BTTF has never wavered.

And guess where the money is, the people who will most be able to afford multiple visits to UGB? It sits with them. It makes sense to cater to these generations, particularly as many of them will remember former BTTF attractions when they were taken to the US as children

The first Back to the Future film is my favourite of all time and my number 1 wish for Universal Bedford was a coaster with an 88MPH launch and I'm so happy it's potentially coming true! Aside from that, my other wish was to have a nice mixture of classic and modern Universal IPs and it seems like that's not unlikely with the implication of a Jaws attraction!

I am saddened we're not getting the Nintendo Land though (at least at first), that was the one thing I was anticipating if this goes ahead but I get that Universal might not want to "cannibalise" their attendance in Orlando for the next 10 or so years

Hopefully LOTR will come, and I still don't buy the fact that it's not an recognisable IP lmao. Lack of Potter is weird, but on a personal preference I'm glad it's not there (at the moment)

Lack of Potter is clearly either a rights issue or part of the not wanting to cannibalise Florida visits.

I still struggle to see how they'd do a LOTR area justice. For something that takes place over an entire world with very different locations compared to the likes of Avatar (generic alien world) or Pottter (school & shopping area) I can't picture what they'd do bar Hobbiton and a dark ride.

Oh, and if there's a new Jaws related attraction? Mack Rocking Boat.
 
It's not that easy. The way Universal have rolled out Potter prioritises a sort of magical realism, and I could imagine that the Tolkien estate would want the same treatment. Hogsmeade, London, and now Paris are all parts of the story, and the rides there suit that particular world/environment, although obviously, now they've used a cheat code with the 'Floo Network' to set a London-based ride in the latter. I can't imagine they'll open a mish-mash RCT corner of vaguely Ringsy rides.

Wraith - a flying coaster based on the ring Wraiths searching for the one ring
Ride of the Rohirum - small family coaster

And those are just the ones I can think of.

If you allow The Hobbit to be part of the wider LOTR universe you open up all sorts of fun you could do with Smaug.

The Tolkien Estate don't own the rights so they won't be able to insist on creative control like JK Rowling does over Wizarding World designs. There are endless scenarios across LotR and The Hobbit which lend themselves to theme park settings, simply endless.
 
You could create a whole theme-park themed to LOTR on it's own, nevermind a single land. IF it really is to come to USGB, their creative minds will be tested for sure.

what areas of LOTR do people want to see? What story will be told? I struggle to see how they wouldn't bring us The Shire in some form. (smaller than the film set), and then possibly a ride which follows Frodo's journey to mount doom? But how could that be condensed into one experience? And personally I could see them straying away from the original movies/actors which are 25 years old now.

Someone did a mock up that i can't find that was basically Taron but indoors with LOTR theming, that would be perfect.

But if they're sticking to the plans and already have 2 big coasters i'd be surprised if there was a third (and that's not even including the potential Minions indoor family coaster).
