Paultons Park: General Discussion

You'd be lucky to get an Uber from Romsey, but you'd be more hard pressed to find an Uber journey back.

I'd suggest travelling to Southampton Central and using taxi rank outside to get there. Getting back, a local minicab company, or even the minicab company of the taxi taking you to the park in the first instance.

Paulton's Park themselves recommend Radio Taxis.

To add, I've also found there's a local bus service from Southampton Central to Paultons Park which could be cheaper than the Taxi

Is there a public bus service to and from Paultons Park?

The X7 Salisbury-Southampton service stops daily inside the Park grounds and at the top of the driveway outside the Park main gates

Thanks, all! I’ll take a look into some of these options; I was thinking of going to Romsey as it’s quicker from my neck of the woods than Southampton and is also closer to the park, but if the transport from Southampton really is that much easier, I’ll take a look into going there!

My Uber app suggests that they do operate in the area in both directions, but it’s not quite as instantaneous as it is in the likes of London… maybe I’d have to think about reserving Uber in advance if I did that (which you can apparently do)?

@Call_um It’s not for the fan day (I’m planning to attend on a different day), but I appreciate the offer regardless!

You can, but there is a catch. There's not a really a reservation made, it's more of an automation.

You pick the time you want to ride and Uber quotes you a price. As it starts to approach your pick up time, Uber automatically notifies drivers in the area of your request and the pre-agreed amount. They are then free to accept or deny the request. It operates in almost the exact same way as if you were to request a driver yourself normally.

If there's not a driver in the area, or there's not one who accepts the job as they think you're too far out, or perhaps there's now surge pricing in the area, you're out of luck. Uber isn't actually guaranteeing to send you a driver at the time. It's guaranteeing to run the automation for you, and charge you a small premium for the privilege.

It sometimes works well. It doesn't work well in areas which aren't well served by Uber.

Although Southampton is served, and Paulton's isn't too far away, the New Forest isn't covered by Uber as there's no real metropolitan centre in it. It'll be pot luck as to whether or not there's a driver nearby who will accept your request.
 
Just received my ticket and itinerary through for the Super fans day on the 17th.

Haven't been to Paultons for well over 10 years, before the days of Peppa Pig world so really looking forward to seeing how much the park has changed over the years.

Also really looking forward to some of the evening activities + speeches later on too!

They really did miss a trick there, but I would imagine that the park doesn't have a blanket audiovisual rights licence for screening shows like Eurovision.

There are exemptions for live sporting events, and news channels, but since 2023 premises have generally needed to get additional blanket (or individual) licence agreements to publicly show TV broadcasts (in addition to a TV licence).

Considering the general makeup of the event attendees, I don't think too many will be bothered.

I will be winging it back to my hotel as soon as possible though, rewinding and avoiding spoilers.

I'm not too sure to be honest, my original guess is a clone of Viking Voyage at Emerald Park (Interlink Super Flume) or an Intamin flume, it could be a clone of Biberburg at Family Park/Catapult Falls at Seaworld San Antonio or a more custom layout.

For me personally I really want Paultons to get a dark water boat ride would fit perfectly in the Vikings area, in the style of Pirates Adventure would fit the park well. Especially as we don't have enough slow paced non soaker Dark Water Boat Rides 3 of which are SBNO

In fairness it's not usually out of choice. Paultons are the beneficiaries of not having to submit planning permission for most of their ventures whereas the likes of Merlin generally have to do so and thus can't keep things under wraps even if they want to.

Where’s the 3rd? I can only think of Drayton Manor and BPB.

It’s bought back childhood memories of the Aladdin’s Cave ride at Pleasurewood Hills in its heyday!

I agree - would love to see a ride themed as well as Pirates in Batavia at Europa!
