Paultons Park: General Discussion

Yes, but that's because the loading of the cars relies on perfect timing. Otherwise the ride hangs and all the other riders are stuck on scenes, without anything to do. We had a few pauses, nothing major, but it breaks the flow. Lots of quick ushering by the staff. No dilly and dallying allowed.

surprised the games are not set up to drag on a bit if there is a delay in loading. Should be doable.

So Ghostly Manor great Dark Ride in the top 5 UK Dark Rides but not number 1 still think Curse flow through scenes better and it doesn't utilise as many screens. Probably 4th or 5th favourite Dark Ride in the UK. Ghostly Manor has lovely animtronics to.

Also realised from doing Magma and Croc Drop over 2 days Croc Drop has significantly better theming than Magma.

As for the new coaster could be anything Gerstlauer, Mack, ART Engineering, Intamin, Zierer, Zamperla all have experience doing Vertical Lift Hills

Before we get the announcement tomorrow, I’d like to put in a secondary prediction (if those are allowed): alongside my pre-existing prediction of an Intamin Hot Racer as the main coaster for 2026, I predict that the alleged “UK’s first” secondary ride will be a Zamperla Big WaveZ!

I predict this because I think it would fit quite nicely in to the Raging River plot, would explain why the basin from that ride was recently repainted, and would fill the water ride void left by Raging River somewhat until a larger water ride comes along (potentially in 2027, as rumoured).

Paultons also have a strong pre-existing relationship with Zamperla when it comes to flat rides, with both Cyclonator and The Edge having been supplied by Zamperla, and it would fit the bill of a “UK’s first” ride, so I think it would work quite well!
I wouldn't mind that, and it would be good to have another water ride at Paultons in the place of Raging River.

I’ve seen a POV of ghostly manor and I know we all love Paultons, all there work they are doing and there theming and all. But it didn’t look great on ride and I think its ok to be honest here,
And not get carried away here. I appreciate it will look slightly better in person but compared to The curse POV it looks more like an arcade kinda ride with minimal movement, scenes to quick and quite short with interrupted music and not a flowing story?

I like the Que line inside and out but it’s very short Que inside. On ride does look a little
amateur if I’m honest, but I do appreciate this was Paultons first attempt at a dark ride. However I’m sorry if this was Merlin you would all slate them.

They are completely different styles of rides to even be comparing. I don't think Ghostly Manor is supposed to be all serious inside with it props and screens. I don't think amateur is the correct word either, it's well done, and it a complete package of what it presents. A shooting ride which stops from scene to scene is not comparable to a constant moving dark ride like Alton Manor

I really don't think anyone can judge a ride positively or negatively based on a POV alone, least of all a dark ride. There's not a single POV out there that gives a representation of a dark ride anything close to what it's like to experience it. If early reviews from those that have ridden it are positive then that's a good sign. However I'll be reserving my own judgment until after my visit in June.

Perhaps unambitious?

I think I’ve said this before, but Paultons do great theming, but they really don’t know how to put on a proper “show” quite yet. There is just the one dark ride, and all other coasters or flat rides have little to no dispatch sequences, show lighting in the station or any kind of ambitious story.

As much as we bash Merlin, they’ve been in the industry for years and do know how to really bring a kick with some pretty captivating themes and can create a pretty good and unique atmosphere.

Mind, I am still impressed by how well Paultons did with their first foray into show type rides. I love the little movements, but effects range from screens, to cute, to kind of just a bit naff like the plant that barely moves or the glass shattering light effect. But I’m impressed, especially with the small space. I think that it being a contender for one of the better dark rides in the UK says more about the UK than Ghostly Manor. It’s cute, but I doesn’t have the exact Dark Ride “spark” I get from a great dark ride. But it’s not meant to be, and they're made a good choice starting small, they are relatively Industry outsiders. They’re learning.. they’ll get there….
