Paultons Park: General Discussion

I will concede the area does look really nice. And I’m sure it will be presented impeccably like so many things at the sainted park are.

But, it’s that old idiom again - you can’t polish a turd. And a rough as hell Eurofighter (+ OTSRs) combined with a 2-riders-per-day ART Swing ride is about as close as you can get. It doesn’t matter how nice they make it if the ride hardware is a load of tripe, and I’m sorry but that’s what I believe this is going to be.

I really hope I’m proven wrong but it’s so difficult to be enthused by this.

It depends if this new Eurofarter rides just as terribly as Sore does. Or if its comfort is more akin to the moderately tolerable Rage. Let's hope that we're not ending up with another Vindfald or Sore.

Changing the conversation from the Eurofarter... how likely do we reckon a Mack multi-launched water coaster would be for 2027?

The one planned for Freizeitpark Plohn looks to be pretty impressive. Packed with airtime too. With the Mancey's being self-professed enthusiasts, I could see them opting for one of these.

Can’t make it up. You big up a new themed land then don’t retheme the biggest thing in it to match.

Amazing.
Edge won't be in the area, though, it will be just outside the boundary. They told us at the event that they don't know what they're doing with it yet. I could see it leaving in the future, once more of the park is themed.

It does seem odd that they aren’t retheming The Edge. It’s the only thing in that corner that won’t be integrated into Vanguard, and when it’s so enmeshed with the likes of Cobra at present, I fear that it might stick out like a sore thumb.

It’s not the usual Paultons way when areas like Tornado Springs and Lost Kingdom are so cohesive.

To me it reads like they know the ride is riding like a bag of bolts and would rather not invest in integrating it in with Valgard if they know it's on borrowed time. Having said that, parts of Paultons are not themed anyway. It's an amusement transitioning into a theme park, so they clearly don't feel pressured to theme an older (and more mediocre) Edge if chunks of the park aren't themed anyway.

So if the reason they’re not retheming Edge is that they’re planning to remove it anyway… why don’t they just remove it at the end of this season and be done with it?

At least it will make the area consistent (yes I know it’s not TECHNICALLY in the area… but also, it is…), and it’s not like Paultons are really struggling for rides and attractions at the moment anyway. Plus that way the land is available immediately to start work on future phases, if they decide to go that route. And if they can get a few quid flogging it, even better.

If budgets couldn’t stretch far enough to retheme Edge, then I think it’s understandable that Paultons wanted to put more money into the meat of the area, and the stuff that’s actually going to be staying long term, as opposed to giving Edge a retheme for its remaining years.

Although it does still seem somewhat out of step with Paultons’ typical cohesive, “finish every corner” approach, as it will stick out like somewhat of a sore thumb within a heavily themed Viking area. And it also feels like the type of thing a Merlin park, or any other UK park for that matter, would be heavily criticised for doing.
