Nemesis Reborn: General Discussion

I watched that Nemesis video on youtube last night. If you havent watched it then i highly recommend it as there are some really interesting bits in the film

Have the blades on the large helicopter been fixed does anybody know? Last 2 visits they don't spin.
They stop I believe if someone touches the fence near it a safety feature if someone enters that area.

I saw them on the Monorail the other day working earlier in the day and off later on in the day

To prevent someone touching the blades if someone were to climb it I guess. Better to take no risks I guess
I would imagine it pull hurt if you held onto the rotors, then get hit off by the tail. Also there is the risk of them hitting their head on the blades

The gear box also is going to be quite dangerous depending on how exposed it is.

It isn't running today either, although it has been quite bad weather.

I dont understand, what is that going to stop? They are not blades that can cut you or anything.

Do we know this as fact or just hearsay?

The reason I question it is because logic would dictate (especially with safety) the same sort of feature would be on the shark that spins in the lake next to battle galleons. We know that not to be the case, because people have hung off that as it spins, many, many times.

they wouldn't cut anything, but if you caught your head it would hurt (if if some idiot tried to climb it and fell it would also hurt)

I would argue that the shark is less accessible, it is in water and there isn't any required staff activity (don't forget some staff will have to go to the helecopter to refill the smoke machine that is inside every now and then)

also you are talking about what 20 years difference? from construction safety standards have changed, and merlin would probably want to be extremely careful

Would that also not be prone to turning off the blades for people holding the fence for normal reasons like steadying themselves or leaning on it?

Sounds expensive. Unreasonable expensive wouldn’t one think…

Of course! This is why the gun looks so cheap! All makes much, much more sense now doesn’t it!

I mean people have literally hung off the shark. I would argue that is far more dangerous, because there is mechanical equipment in the water, hidden from view, by the water.

What does the fact a member of staff has to go into the set piece have to do with someone hanging off it? The blade is high in the air, I would suspect if it needed to he switched off, it can be by staff, but I doubt staff need to go anywhere near the blades to fill the smoke.

well I have never heard of that, but I did say, the shark is much older and thus not had these systems installed, if it was added today it may have those features.

as for the staff I think the smoke storage is within the helicopter (at least I can't see any non electrical looking cables going to the helecopter) so they may be working quite close to it.

Just because you havent heard of it doesnt mean it didnt happen. The videos are probably still on the Internet somewhere as it did go viral.

A great design of all helicopters is you can get in and out of them while keeping the blades running, I mean, they are far slower here, they are hardly a hazard to anyone. They barely move.

I didn't mean it that way, I meant it more like well... I didn't know that happened

you're not wrong it would be difficult to hurt yourself, but trust me it can happen I would imagine the motor would quite happily break someone's bones and continue turning, a staff member stretching after getting out of the helicopter, bang.

also I would imagine the main point is for guests, not staff (staff would probably turn it off, I was more trying to say it to say how accessible it is) if someone got on the blades there are plenty of ways they could get hurt, they could fall off, they could get hit into the helicopter body (such as the tail)

While on the subject of ETPA, they posted this fantastic picture to Alton Towers Archive the other day. Before and after Nemesis.

I highly recommend checking out their Facebook page, fantastic pictures of the resort.
