you're not wrong it would be difficult to hurt yourself, but trust me it can happen I would imagine the motor would quite happily break someone's bones and continue turning, a staff member stretching after getting out of the helicopter, bang.

also I would imagine the main point is for guests, not staff (staff would probably turn it off, I was more trying to say it to say how accessible it is) if someone got on the blades there are plenty of ways they could get hurt, they could fall off, they could get hit into the helicopter body (such as the tail)

Taking this back a bit, this whole thing is ridiculous. Allow me to rattle off a few points:

  1. A fence touching safety system sound ridiculous. A system like this would cost way too much for what it’s worth, and cause the blades to stop spinning all the time.
  2. The fences are probably fine. If some code was being breached, some organisation would be snatching fines from Towers every day for it.
  3. If someone scaled a perfectly up to code and desperately jumped into Battle Galleons ride area to shove their hands in the heavy machinery, likewise for the helicopter, I think Alton Towers would have a pretty good case, all things considered.

In regards to the shark, people have jumped in to ride the shark, a good few times in the past. It has been discussed on this very site previously after it had happened.

It may not have happened recently, but it happened a few times at least in the past, there were videos showing said person riding the shark too.

I would imagine it probably isn't a fence touching system, I would expect it to be something more like a light gate,

you also have to remember we now have tic toc and people will try stupid things to get popular, there have been so many stupid times with that (didn't multiple people die from the "planking" challenge thing trying to get into dangerous spots?)

This from a post on FB from Euro Theme Park Archive. Apparently a few people do not believe it was John Wardley and that it was an AI voice!
It's amazing to nearly reach 25k views for the Nemesis documentary in 1 month! However I'm still getting the odd comment about John Wardley's narration being an AI fake. So I'd just like to explain more...
John very generously offered to do the voiceover last summer when I sent him the rough cut to check, before the VO was recorded. He hadn't been able to appear in the video when we originally shot it because he was asked by Alton Towers to only do official media during the promotion of Nemesis Reborn (fair enough), but he still wanted to support our efforts.
Because the video cast a wider look at the people behind Nemesis and the voiceover was already written, and he explained he didn't want to be "Mr Nemesis" borrowing the spotlight from everyone else, he asked that the voiceover not be introduced as himself and be a guest voice only. We agreed that it would be a nice surprise for fans if they happened to recognise his voice.
But also, there would be no benefit to me using a fake voiceover. I havent advertised that it's his voice anywhere. It would ensure that John would never support ETPA again if we impersonated his voice like that. It would be a lie to our followers, which is at odds with the huge efforts we go to with our research for accuracy and honesty.
If I was trying to trick people, youd think I'd change the script to not have the voice say "John Wardley" in the third person! Or if I was just using an AI gimmick, I wouldnt go to the effort of making such a realistic voice (I don't even know how to do that) and then put John's name in the credits anyway.
The voice is John Wardley's real voice. It's not that hard to believe, since John has appeared in almost all our videos for 10 years.

I feel like these are questions that I should know the answer to but will be happy to finally know the answers and seen varying reports. Did it ever get confirmed whether the Reborn trains are new or just refurbished and are the track pieces in the queue new ones that didn’t fit or repainted from the original?

Trains are refurbished so same as before with some new parts. They’ve previously disclosed it but the bracing at the bottom between seats isn’t the crossties we see on new inverts.

I don’t think it was ever confirmed with the track pieces in the queue, however the rumour at the time was that they were misaligned pieces and new track was made. I think all of the old pieces got sent to the scrapyard in Stone.

It’s still so weird to think the original track pieces got sent to a retirement home in Stone, it’s a nice little pensioner town really. So she’s having a happy retirement! My extended family own a fish farm there, and I got traumatised nearby when I got chased by cows on a DofE trip…

I have heard reports both saying the trains are new and the trains are refurbished.

I would assume they are new, because the chassis, which has the seat hangs as part of it like a giant block of metal and the top part of the trains would have been 30 years old, it would have needed major work, much easier and less time consuming to replace. Nothing stopping them building old design trains as brand new. NDC testing would be almost yearly on that huge block of metal, so I am assuming they replaced it, making it a truly new train. You can never call a train new until the chassis is replaced, no matter how many times other parts on the train is replaced.

Am I correct in thinking that last time Nemesis ran without wheel covers was because of a heat-related issue? The issue could be exacerbated with black wheel covers potentially absorbing heat.

It’s not that uncommon on Nemesis and I think a couple of other inverts have done that in the recent past, I’d imagine it’s a relatively easy thing to change during maintenance checks.

Oh nice, I will have to watch that later. Bit late to the party!

Having lived in Uttoxeter for nearly ten years working for JCB as a design engineer I have now moved to the Wirral and got a young family, so a bit out of the loop but still have great memories of the place and have ridden Nemesis many times, very good ride so I am glad its been reborn for future generations. Makes a lot of sense given how integrated it is to the landscape and how well the overall design has aged.

From an engineering view point its almost perfect for B&M as they have 30 years real life 'endurance testing' in not only the overall design but the specific installation. Keep most of it the same just replace worn track, tweak a few areas where any issues or room for improvement have been seeing with the structure or profiling, although this appears to be very minimal which is credit to the quality of the original design, at which point I expect the main driver was just wear to the rails themselves.

Good times.
