Efteling: General Discussion

It has to be driven by the cap on visitor numbers.

If you have a limited number of visitors then you have to focus on the guests which bring most value. School groups are likely to be some of lowest per capita spenders of any visitor, whilst at the same time being possibly one of the more annoying demographics of visitors to other guests. They are probably the easiest of a particular demographic to exclude as well.

It just makes sense for them to adopt this policy. Very sensible.

I think there is also the anomaly of Efteling not being a traditional run for profit business hence customer experience trumps other things. The people running the park actually want it to be lovely.

They are actively working to mitigate the guest capacity in other ways too - a key reason for building the new hotel was that each hotel guest is apparently only counted once towards the cap regardless of length of stay. Cutting back on school trips, likely relatively low revenue guests, makes a fair bit of sense from this viewpoint.

Danse Macabre has been closed indefinitely!

Currently it states till at least July 27 but this is subject to change as they don’t know what the problem is.

Will be very upset if it’s closed for our August visit :(

I do wonder when they’re actually going to fix that awful fox alarm sound. It’s a particular sadness on a ride led by sound - I have heard Intamin was on site when the new program was installed, or around then, to try and fix the noise, but clearly some time has passed since the proposed fix.

It makes me curious to if the whole thing was just some spotty guesswork, or Efteling just stole a trick out of the White House’s book; “let them forget about it”.

Efteling has put up a Grand Hotel walkthrough:

DLRP-Magic has also done something similar, albeit longer:

(I'm yet to properly watch these, fyi)

Oh. And Looopings filmed the Opening Ceremony too.

11 hours later, I finally get to watch these videos and quietly screech a "WHAT?!" at hearing the mention of the Guinness World Records! And, well, please see quote from Efteling's blog below.

World’s Largest Ribbon on the Efteling Grand Hotel

To celebrate the festive opening of the Efteling Grand Hotel, Efteling placed the world’s largest ribbon on the façade of the brand-new luxury hotel. The ribbon measures 16.74 metres wide and 17.15 metres high. During the opening ceremony this morning, it was officially announced that Efteling has broken the Guinness World Record for ‘Largest Ribbon Bow’. A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on site to present the certificate to CEO Fons Jurgens.
To mark the opening of the Efteling Grand Hotel in true Efteling style, we literally tied a ribbon around it! “We’ve been looking forward to this moment for a long time,” says CEO Fons Jurgens. “We’re adding the largest hotel ever to our overnight offerings, with a new level of refinement and luxury. And for the very first time, it’s now possible to stay within the park borders of Efteling itself. That calls for a grand opening—and this Guinness World Record is the cherry on top!”
Yet another Guinness World Record for them to find a wall spot or shelf space for in the packed out Wonder Depot alongside the tallest stack of pancakes (2014, beaten in 2016), oldest operating carousel, largest Pirate Ship ride (1982, beaten in 1985), largest BIRD (1998) and what have you on Eftepedia's dedicated page.

Anyway, Grand Hotel also has lobby entertainment featuring Princess Adinda and a pea puppet (The Princess and the, well, Pea) and Princess Anura and Hendril the frog (The Frog King) with bellboy Gérard Hostel. I, uh, cba watching these in full.

And Eftelwesley has shown off the merch offerings in the gift shop, Arcadeau.
