Efteling: General Discussion

I saw it for the first time in April. My review can be summed up by Dutch Medieval Power Rangers.
The horses and the dragon looks really cool up the until the knights start spinning and rolling around in the sand while pyrotechnics go off.

Seems like the new Danse Macabre programme is quite problematic:

Danse Macabre has been running almost flawlessly for the past six months, but since last week, technical problems have been occurring regularly. In seven days, the attraction had to be closed no less than ten times due to a malfunction. The reason: a new ride program , introduced on Thursday, May 15.

Not a day went by last week without a malfunction. In total, Danse Macabre was out of service for 739 minutes during the park's opening hours. That amounts to a downtime of no less than 18.7 percent. Efteling aims for a downtime of no more than 2 percent for new attractions, the management said earlier.

So far, yesterday has been the best. Danse Macabre remained closed all morning due to technical issues: the gates could only be opened at 2:50 PM. Efteling knows where the sudden closures come from: the update that was implemented last week is causing teething problems.

They are working hard to fix the defects as quickly as possible, says a spokesperson. Sometimes they only come to light when the attraction has been in operation for a long time. The spokesperson cannot go into detail about the specific technical elements that are currently causing problems. He also does not dare to say when the teething problems will be over.

For the time being, Efteling visitors must therefore take into account that they may find themselves in front of a closed gate at Danse Macabre. The horror attraction was built last year by manufacturer Intamin from Liechtenstein. The attraction type, a dynamic motion stage, does not yet exist anywhere else in the world. In the new ride program, the movements are more intense than before .

It did go down on the old program for about 15 minutes when I queued for it in April (was stuck in the dark outside the ride room), so it wasn’t without its problems then, though they got it fixed quickly. Given though it’s a prototype and a spectacularly complicated piece of tech it’s not suprising that there would be issues at some point.

I don’t really know why they changed the cycle - though it is more intense, the new cycle appears to be shorter too if I’m right so maybe to increase capacity further?
