I had no idea the pistons were removed. Was this recently?

I know for a fact they were gone in the 2021 season, potentially 2020 too but not sure.

Would love to see them them return, no idea why they got rid of them. Doubt they'll ever return now its been years since they were removed.

I thought I remembered something about the pistons putting increased pressure on the aging release mechanism (as they were under pressure pre release, not something that activated on release) causing increased wear and downtime. I might have made that up though.

That would make some sense. Though I'd hope it was designed with that extra force in mind!

I think Viper at West Midlands safari park still exists ?

Yep the West Midlands Safari Park drop tower is exactly how Detonator should (but sadly doesn’t) ride. It’s now, in my opinion, the best and certainly most intense drop tower in the UK thanks to those pistons. Really poor from Thorpe Park to have removed what made the ride special.

Beats croc drop, that’s for sure - at least, out of non spinning drop towers.

On the subject of things missing, WWTP Radio has been noticeably absent from Amity today, although the Speedway loop is now playing up by Stealth.

On the subject of missing things is this a hole in The Swarm track I spotted yesterday

Doesn't look like a hole to me. Looks like something on the track.

it looks like it is a hole, but it is meant to be there, there is a plate that goes accross the track (similar to the picture bellow) those holes are also found on Galactica, nemesis, etc and I believe it is to drain water that may collect in that support bracket to prevent rusting (they are circular on galactica, it appears as though some white stuff has collected on the outlet, making it look like 2 holes although you can see it used to be one hole)

Thanks for clarifying- my eye sight isn’t the best was stood for ten minutes looking in the queue and still couldn’t work it out even with the zoomed in photo.

General thoughts on Thorpe atm - it’s actually a bit run down similar to Alton but gets away with it as it’s not trying to be a theme park

If it was a hole it wouldn't be a water drain one as it appears to be on the weld? They wouldnt purposely weaken a weld by putting a hole on a weld I wouldnt have thought.
