Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Thanks for clarifying- my eye sight isn’t the best was stood for ten minutes looking in the queue and still couldn’t work it out even with the zoomed in photo.

General thoughts on Thorpe atm - it’s actually a bit run down similar to Alton but gets away with it as it’s not trying to be a theme park
Actually think both parks are looking much fresher this year Alton really got their paint out this year. Replaced a lot of rotten wood to.

And Thorpe have done more from their Sparkle project Colossus is looking so good at the moment

If it was a hole it wouldn't be a water drain one as it appears to be on the weld? They wouldnt purposely weaken a weld by putting a hole on a weld I wouldnt have thought.
it is a hole, both nemesis and Galactica share the features, it dose act as a stress concentration point, however it has to go on the weld as if it was in a different location it would allow water to pool corroding the inside of the support, eventually leading to its replacement.

thinking about it it could also be an anti stress concentration thing if the tensile stresses were too high, to prevent too high of a stress in that corner but IDK I would have to see the FEA to truly understand it,

you can see some here, one on top and one bellow

Talking about poor guest behaviour on hyperia on Thursday it got E-stopped because a guest had climbed out of the station into the ride area so a train full of people got stopped at the top of the lift hill for 10 minutes.

After that on our last ride of the day someone was told in the station to put their phone away and then took it out again at the top of the lift hill to record which made them stop the train and tell him to put it away over the speakers, when he got back into the station they kept his row of restraints locked and made him hesitantly delete the video as the whole station started booing at him and shouting shame on you, they then told him security would be waiting for him outside of the gift shop, brilliantly handled imo 😂.

This should be the default for anyone trying to do that! I hope "security" dragged the little scrote out the back and taught 'em a lesson like a 90's bouncer. Lifetime ban from all Merlin parks to boot.

If this is the case, how does Paultons manage to keep their park looking fresh, clean and tidy, at the same time that UK Merlin parks all look a mess?
Their target audience being only just about old enough to have the skills to wipe their own bottoms, tie their own shoelaces and spell their own name might have something to do about it...

Having said that, the same is probably true for Thorpe Park's target audience too.

Yes but I said ‘UK Merlin parks’, not just Thorpe Park. Chessington and Legoland Windsor are also home to litter and graffiti. Have you been in Tomb Blaster’s queue lately and seen all the graffiti there?

Where’s the litter and graffiti at Legoland?
Ok admittedly I’ve only seen graffiti once at Legoland, but I’ve seen litter in ride areas and bushes when I’ve been queueing for rides.

My point was really in response to the claim that the parks can’t help being messy if guests trash the place, whereas the reality is that it’s something that the parks should be keeping on top of rather than just blaming the guests for their untidy appearance.

But the UK in particular is the worst for it
I pretty much see parents smoking whilst pushing prams or allowing their children to clamber over the “do not touch” models on every visit so I don’t think age demographics provide immunity from poor behaviour
Spanish parks are particularly bad for both the above. Worse than UK. So are quite a few other parks in Europe. Not solely a UK issue.

Currently in Japan. One thing that has surprised me here is how unruly teenage lads are in particular. Still at least the parks keep on top of tidiness. Never seen so many people cleaning. 😂. Issues such as graffiti etched in to things seems to be addressed quickly. Yes it does happen. Even in Japan. Even at Disney.
