Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Just posting this if anyone has missed out on this, Euro Theme Park Archive uploaded a POV of the original 1987 Vartiant of The 5th Dimension a while back.

Looking back on it, I'm really impressed with the quality of the animatronics, from moving eyes, blinking, etc. For a UK dark ride, made in 1987, it really does hold up well compared to what the UK offers currently.

Yeah, majorly ahead of its time. Theres some neat jokes in there playing with the fact that it is a ride - I guess thats Douglas Adams for you. Unfortunately, the concept of a dark ride was alien to the UK public at the time. Probably confused them more!

Do they have any source other than themselves? As I wouldn’t rate Chessington Buzz particularly highly at all on the reliability scale…
Chessington Buzz, from my personal experiences with the site’s ownership, have had some reliability. Jared does have his sources. Granted, they definitely don’t have perfect reliability, but who does have perfect reliability with this sort of thing?

They correctly predicted the waterpark before it was announced, if I’m remembering rightly. They also correctly predicted that Mandrill would be a B&M Wing Coaster and the land would be themed to Jumanji before this was officially known, despite many deriding them for suggesting that Mandrill would be a B&M. They also provided information about some of the flat rides in Jumanji, and while they were a bit less specific with this one, they did state multiple times that bigger investments were on the way in the coming years prior to the announcement of Paw Patrol and Minecraft.

I’m not saying they have a perfect track record, but I think their track record with rumours is better than many give them credit for. I definitely feel I have justified reasons for trusting them.

Agree. And it’s hardly a wild prediction. Tiger Rock will be 40 and has been plagued by reliability issues in recent years and reduced availability. Along with the inevitable movement away from housing large mammals it’s the obvious next plot for redevelopment.

Will be a shame as I think it’s a lovely themed area, even if the ride itself is a shell of what it was.

I suppose Chessie needs to continue its trend of having a major ride/area of the park closed every year.
But if the long-term payoff is redevelopment and major new investment, is that not arguably a price worth paying? It’s not like Chessington has had areas closed for the sake of having them closed; the park is having a lot of money put into it.

Technically speaking, Phantasialand had an area closed off every year for years while they built the likes of Chiapas, Klugheim and Rookburgh. I didn’t see anyone complaining then, and that was because we knew that there was really good investment on the way.

Chessington has been lacking investment for years, and I, for one, see it as encouraging that the park is finally having some money spent on it. The likes of Paw Patrol and Minecraft are sorely needed attractions, and will almost certainly improve upon what they replaced.

I'm trying to remember where I've read it, but I believe although Wardley designed the initial layout for Nemesis Inferno, Tussaud's went in a different direction and Wardley wasn't particularly happy about it. I'm sure others will be able to shed some light on this one.

In a recent conversation with @Poisson, he led me to believe that the brake run was a particular point of contention.
Interesting and quite sad I think. The guy that pretty much made Tussuad's Group what it was getting second guessed.

Saying Tiger Rock is closing doesn't mean the Ride itself is closing could be the theme is going it just needs a retheme with the rock work restored like it has when it first opened its a good Log Flume just with poor theming.

I’d be surprised if the ride itself wasn’t going given that it’s nearly 40 years old and the direction of travel within Merlin has been staunchly away from unrestrained water rides of that nature, particularly post-2015.

They say a lot.... Most seem to be jokes but then they nail it too so you never know what is true or not. If Go Ape confirms they're closing and Howard confirms he's going to Towers - neither of which have been confirmed anywhere else - then they have my support and credit where credit is due

If it does go it's a shame. The area had great themeing. It also lasted the test of time... 38 years! I do wonder with IPS like Jumanji and Minecraft how quickly those will date.

Take Beanoland for instance... It was one of the 'newer' lands but didn't have a huge long lifespan. (RIP CHEGGERS ADVERTS). That area is on its 3rd reincarnation with Minecraft.

I will hold back judgement on the log flume redevelopment area but it did feel as if you got lost in the back of the park going through the winding paths.

I can't see the ride staying, it's nearly as old as me!

Id prefer to see other areas fixed first.
