[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

Put aside the fact in the 70’s and 80’s there was quite a bit of rollercoaster hardware in that very spot. If our parents and grandparents could navigate themselves to coaster corner with nothing but a paper map and a Henry Hound branded ice cream cone I’m sure the modern generation with apps and GPS will be able to treck through the wilderness to ride this thing

Only if someone on Tik Tok told them how to 🤣

The only real problem with Project Horizon with it being in that location is whether people will go back there. It will need a great marketing campaign in order to make sure people are aware

With the Dungeons Boat Ride not attracting guests that way general public may assume there is nothing there.

Being to many parks, dead ends often make rides quieter and footfall less.
Even when it was Toyland Tours wasn't one of the reasons that closed was because it had less crowds and was out of the way and this is a similar place to that
When we had Coaster Corner it was a pretty busy area and it was when we lost both Beast and Mouse from that area of the park that the decline happened even when Toyland Tours and the many rethemes of that area took place showing that a coaster of some description will attract people no matter the location.

Had a coaster been then when Toyland opened then I have no doubt the area would have been doing well with that ride getting big queues likely, maybe Charlie never happens or even TWODW but I digress. Project Horizon would pretty much, if they were smart enough to make it part of the area (which stupidly they aren't), would do wonders to give that area of the park much needed footfall that it's been crying out for years, decades perhaps.

Toyland Tours did have Mini Apple as a coaster when it opened so it did have something there. But with Horizon if the areas around it aren't sorted it will be on its own with quite a hefty walk to the attraction with not much attracting enticing people to go that way

I don’t think horizon has to be part of the talbot/ cred/ cuckoo area per se, it’s set back far enough to be its own land (would benefit from a flat though). In an ideal world they would have fixed the talbot/ cred/ cuckoo area by the time Horizon was open though so you had a nice environment to travel through on your way to Horizon and something to progress to once in the area.

It will be Towers first major new rollercoaster in at least 10 years (assuming the earliest 2028 for opening).

It doesn’t need anything else. Other rides would be a bonus but it doesn’t need them.

That said Rita and Thirteen (again assuming they’ll exist by then) which are both incredibly popular are right next door.

An indoor boat attraction and a multi million pound coaster are entirely different for pulling crowds.

I have no doubt whatever form Horizon takes it will attract big queues for its lifespan.

So where is the entrance to Horizon in theory? Let’s say I’m standing outside Hex facing the entrance, would it be a walk down the right side? Will you have to go through the towers? Round them? Is it behind Walliams? Maps welcome and appreciated, preferably the actual AT map rather than Google if that’s not too demanding…

New path behind the sign where The Dungeons signpost is, outside TWoDW portal to the left, but to the right of the Dungeons/Amigos entrance. The entrance would be to the left as you walked down new said path, with parts of the queue elevated from the ground to avoid touching any tree routes. There will also be an emergency exit/staff pathway right up against the Ice Age building.

If they still intend on keeping the Horizon portal as it’s own area, I wonder if a Toadstool/Flavios replacement would work having it’s entrance and queue flipped to the entrance would be opposite Project Horizon…

The area circled is roughly where Project Horizon is supposed to go, it is not to scale, it's just a general illustration. I've plonked an arrow roughly where I believe the entrance is proposed to be.

Ah not where I thought, thanks all!

So the land directly behind Walliams and joining X Sector, is that unusable woodland?

Dark Forest/Fountain Square is the highest point of land in the park. There’s quite a terrain difference that slopes down heavily between those two areas. Even X Sector itself (which you’ll notice more walking back up) has a steep decline in terrain.

So in theory it’s usable but not practical. There’s also a perimeter road that runs in that area that you can see at the bottom of x sector and behind Oblivions station
