Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Theme Park Guide seem to think that Rumba Rapids could be closing permanently, with work on the attraction seemingly being close to non-existent, the large pumps having been removed, and boats not having been reassembled: https://themeparkguide.co.uk/news-p...0PeUqeBIx5IAiDBeWA_aem_wMRm8tU3fiMha-D2oq9FNA

I don’t know how concrete this evidence is, but I don’t find it massively surprising if this is true. It seems like the operation of the ride has wound down in the last couple of years, and to be honest, this style of ride generally seems like one that Merlin may be turning away from.

I don't get why they don't try to make use of the land behind swarm that was filled in decades ago
This may be the plan anyway at some point, surprised this wasn't where Hyperia went to be honest

my money is it's closed forever 😇
Every year, it keeps getting speculation that it's closed forever and they surprise us with it operating for even shorter time than last year

It would be good if there is a plan if Rumba is closed forever, we don't want another Loggers Leap situation where it's left to rot.

It's clearly meant for something my one problem with Swarm Island its the only ride in the area an extension of that theme would be nice an area should have at least 2 rides

Hyperia had to replace Old Town since that area was always quiet towards the end and was only really used for Fright Nights and small rides.

Seen rumours that Rumba Rapids will be replaced by an Intamin Blitz.

Seems to be pretty much based on things already discussed here so very sceptical but in terms of choices I think it would be a good one if the park was going to add another coaster, especially if it was going to be on Swarm Island and the possibility of interactions.

Thorpe is such an inversion-heavy park that it needs something without inversions as a headliner that stands apart from the other major coasters. The two models of coaster I would have suggested are a Taron-like multi-launch or a GCI wooden coaster.

If Rumba is indeed dead then I see that as a good thing as it was a massive waste of space for what is now a pretty dated attraction. However I hope that space is more than yet another coaster and has something to support it, even if it’s just another Retail/F&B outlet and plaza area.

Are you aware of the source on that one?

It would certainly be exciting if true!

When Rumba is open does it get really long queues at all because I find Congo gets way more of a line then Rumba ever does.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Rumba get an overly long queue.

It’s worth noting, though, that it’s quite out of the way compared to Congo. I think it’s easy to miss, whereas Congo sits pride of place along a main thoroughfare path through Alton Towers.

Comparing the popularity of two decaying concrete troughs is akin to debating which bin smells better on a hot day.

It is a race to the bottom of the drain, and frankly, I have seen paint dry with more urgency than either of them flow.

No source, hence my vocal scepticism, just an influencer. They did also say it won’t be a wooden coaster despite rumours but again, I have no reason to find them credible. Can’t even find the video now annoyingly.

Always fun to discuss what comes next though and both that area and ride seem logical removal/expansion plots.

Getting the first UK Blitz would also be quite a coup with Universal likely doing it otherwise.
