How did TowersStreet begin?

Pretty sure that there was a vast emptiness known as the internet, then in 2012, the big bang happened and TST was born. There was an evil king who wanted to shut it down, but three wise? men turned up and now TST is a thriving and happy community.

I was in hospital after my appendix had finally given up the ghost, literally in the week I was in this had all kicked off and suddenly TST was a thing...
 
Only remember it vaguely, think I was getting drunk on one of my nights off work. Always had good banter with some of the mods whilst on TT and when one of them told me they were making a new home and gave me the details I thought "Yeah, sounds like a good craic, why not". And the rest, as they say, is history.
 
If I remember rightly, the evening when the news broke quickly turned from a "couple of pints" night in to a "whole bottle of rum then raid the leftovers at the back of the shelf" night.

And an all-nighter on Skype whilst having a discussion about Threads as a ‘pleasant distraction’, I believe. Think I ended up going to bed at about 8am when all this kicked off... :p
 
I don’t think it’s wrong to talk about the event, very few people on the current TT team where involved and there is no current animosity as far as I am aware.

It’s been touched upon by folk already but the gist was the owner of TT wanted to make a number of changes of varying types against the advice of the team who had been running the site for them for a long time. The direction was moving more towards generating an income through events and merch and being a group of left leaning libtards we were not happy with that (there was some added complexity but staying out of that).

So we started project Aurora which became TS when Squigs had a lightbulb naming moment during the early panicked team chats.

Generally TS tried to be a fact based news and views site without paid events.

Interesting how you mentioned the whole libtard thing, I noticed a few-big few years back that the mods over there seemed to randomly get way more sensitive and ban happy...nice to have some explanation

(Tbh, I, at the time, thought that the issue was that I had genuinely become a bad person (that's late teens-early twenties High functioning autist logic for ya)

Honestly modding a forum is hard, I suspect the ban happy was just neivity at the time.
 
The people who owned/ran the sites went on to different/better things. One way or another I expect that they didn't have time to dedicate to their original projects. I know at least one of them were doing pretty well for themselves. The other one, I never got on with him since some pathetic arguments years ago. Proper prick he was, and probably still is. I won't name him. The TowersNerd guy was proper cool though. Nice guy and loved his site.

Fair enough - odd that both sites are still online. Some good material on them
