I work for the partnership and haven’t heard about this so am pretty ticked off . Maybe it’s just a thing for stores in the midlands?

Need to log in on the partner leisure benefits site. See this tweet

I’m not a partner but know they call these extras leisure benefits.

I'm not sure I'm in the mind of sending alton towers an email to discuss my issues about the lineup being so coaster heavy with little else to do let's be honest if you don't want to go on a rollercoaster what else is there? Duel, hex, blade and enterprise and maybe Heave ho and a visit to sealife. I just think they need to get the message that some families and guests want something more than just coasters. The park is really missing the twirling Toadstool, a CATCF replacement, NST, Ripsaw and the 3d cinema. I'm really shocked to think what was on offer when I first visited the park in 2015 after smiler incident to what is on offer now and I thought merlin would want to entice customers to visit? I think they need to get the message it will take more than just offering another coaster.

I wouldn't waste your time. All you will get is a cut and paste response saying "You are welcome to try all our other fantabulous attractions, such as..." Then listing exactly what you just have.

Out of interest, how does Thirteen manage to dispatch trains out of the station and get trains back into the station so quickly compared to the park's other coasters? Because it's rather strange how the other coasters progress into the station slowly, but Thirteen launches riders at about 20mph into the station. It's great for me, because it almost gives the sensation of Rita's launch without actually having to ride Rita! ;) Almost. Anyway, it staggers me how Thirteen has one of the lower theoretical throughputs on Park when it dispatches so quickly, at only 1200pph!

Also, on another throughput-related question, does The Smiler actually achieve 1200pph on 4 trains, like Wikipedia and Gerstlauer say it does, or are they talking about if it ran 5 trains. Wikipedia previously said that the ride ran at 960pph on 4 trains, which does seem more realistic given that The Smiler always seems to have a pretty long queue, which definitely does not move as fast as Thirteen's, which hits 1200pph.

On a side note, I decided to look around the internet and get all of the maximum theoretical throughputs for Alton Towers' coasters:
Nemesis: 1400pph
Oblivion: 1700pph
Galactica: Wildly varying figures, ranging from 950pph through to 1500pph
Thirteen: 1200pph, but the ride apparently exceeded this in its first hour of operation. Alton themselves say that the ride can achieve 1400pph, which is interesting.
The Smiler: Either 960pph or 1200pph, not too sure which. I'm personally guessing 960pph.
Rita: 1040pph
Spinball Whizzer: 850pph
Runaway Mine Train: 1000pph
Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure: 600pph
Wicker Man: No data for this yet, but many peeps are estimating around 1000pph.
I was wondering how accurate you guys think these numbers are?

Th13teen uses drive tires, similar to what can be seen on the Intamin family launch coasters like Juvelen at Djurs Sommerland. Those rides use a hydraulic system I believe, which gives them a bit more kick than Th13teen does. I'm not 100% sure though, someone a bit more knowledgeable might be able to go into more detail. :)

Thanks @Brad97! I can't believe that there's a ride that moves trains even faster than Thirteen does!

Theoretical numbers are meaningless, it all depends on how long it physically takes to get people onto the trains and the restraints checked. That in turn depends largely on station and train design.

As noted already, Thirteen was once capable of 1400+, but the restraints now need to be closed further, which means rechecks are more likely. After the novelty wore off the push for throughput was lessened and the staff don't run around any more, 1200 is probably still achievable though. Nemesis now stands alone as the only coaster that can beat 1400.

Oblivion and RMT are both significantly lower than the figures above these days, I'd expect not much over 1100 or so for Oblivion (think how long you spend on the brakes) and 700ish for RMT. Rita has done over 1000 but not in many years, probably sub 800 these days normally. In fact I suspect Rita, RMT and Spinball are all probably in the same ball park now.

Galactica won't get 950 with VR, Air could get 1300+ (1456 theoretical FWIW, or 52 trains/hour - I believe over 50 has been achieved, high 40s more typical). 960 for Smiler was achievable on 5, having only 4 makes little difference but staff don't push it so hard these days so probably no more than 850. Expect this and Thirteen to drop 30% if bag cages are put on the platforms.

If the staff work fast on smiler it requires 5 trains, I saw at scarefest (it was on 4 trains) the train was dispatched and the train behind wasn’t fast enough to ‘follow the train in’ (it had to wait until the gates at the end of the station had closed,

Hey Guys

Can you get out at the exit near the Roller Coaster Restaurant to get back to the Hotel ? If so from what time can you use that exit ?

Thanks

Yes you can, last year they opened it at ride close and on some occasions 10 minutes earlier

Out of interest, is there a Services Day today? Just asking because I saw that some of the rides were listed as open on RideTimes, but I didn't think there was any sort of exclusive pre-opening day until tomorrow. Also, will anyone from TowersStreet be at Services Day tomorrow?
