Hersheypark: General Discussion

Its quite easily the worst name for a coaster I have ever heard though. And I love Hershey park. It was my favourite place to visit when I lived in the States in 2009.

What were they thinking naming a B&M beauty like they would one of their (quite frankly not very nice) chocolate bars.

Personally I like the name; it's a good play on words and it's outside the box of generic names. The glaring issue is that it's in the same park as one of the best hyper coasters on the planet. It just seems daft.

This will be more of a crowd pleaser I think.

The general public seem to be terrified of Skyrush going by the lack of queue on my visit.

Hersheypark confirmed it will be re-opening on July 3rd, which will also be the opening day for Candymonium.

This person here has ridden it and says it is an “absolute airtime machine”, displacing Mako as his favourite B&M hyper:

Very promising! I’ve seen other reviews echoing very promising sentiments as well!

I know that among most die-hard enthusiasts, Candymonium will most likely get overshadowed by Skyrush, but I think that among most guests, it will be a massive crowd pleaser!

And dare I say it, but if I were to visit Hersheypark, I think Candymonium personally excites me more than Skyrush...

Do you think it'll top Skyrush or not. Besides, does everyone who's ridden it think it's Skyrush or Thigh Crush due to the restraints?

No. Skyrush is in a different league. Once you've ridden a few B&M Hypers, they all tend to blur into one, minus a few exceptions.

Skyrush is very much a standalone "balls to the wall" product and is a standout coaster for many who have been on it; it has a very solid spot in my top ten.

I didn't find the 'thigh crushing' to be offensive at all up until the brake run; at which point the lap bars have automatically released a click or two to combat this.

Why?

I admit I should probably have given a bit of an explanation for that, as it’s seemingly a pretty outlandish opinion!

Basically, as much as Skyrush looks amazing from a layout perspective, I do have my reservations about how much I’d actually enjoy it due to horror stories about the ride’s restraints and also about people saying it’s quite rough. I didn’t think I really cared about restraints tightening that much until fairly recently, but when I rode Olympia Looping in January, those restraints tightened to an immensely painful degree, and really took away from the ride for me (combined with the fact that I found the coaster itself a bit too intense for my liking, I actually didn’t particularly enjoy it, despite the immense hype). That did make me realise that I think I value comfort and comfortable restraints on a ride a lot more than I thought I did, which is what does worry me a little about riding Skyrush.

Candymonium, on the other hand, is a type of ride I know I’ll probably love (the only B&M hyper coaster I’ve done is my current number 1, which bodes well!), and the general composition and layout of it looks to encompass a lot of the things I loved about Mako.

For me, intensity isn’t everything in a coaster, and I don’t think I necessarily value intensity over things like rerideability and overall fun factor in a coaster. I imagine Skyrush almost definitely pulls greater g’s than Candymonium, but I’m not sure if I’d necessarily find it any more fun than Candymonium.

I saw a rumour online a few weeks ago that Wildcat would be getting the RMC treatment, but a Titan Track conversion by GCI might also be on the cards.

Exciting stuff, regardless!

Definitely being RMC'd, they've had people on-site over the past few weeks. Wasn't really a fan of it, so it'll be good to see it getting the attention it needs.

I think this is an underrated possibility with interesting potential. I’d certainly be very interested on what GCI could do. This could just be a RMC conversion.

Normally I'm not in favour of RMC conversion of GCI rides as they're usually pretty good in their own right. Wildcat however... isn't. Plus there's the far superior Lightning Racers not too far away, so it's not as if the park would be losing something unique
