Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Yeah it’s quite common. A lot of abandoned quarries are converted for “leisure” use with diving centres and training schools (fitting really given the area around Thorpe). They put statues, vehicles and all sorts at the bottom of lakes to create “artificial reefs”. Makes it all more interesting and gives some incentive to dive there.

Some stuff is truly nightmarish, mind!

The Thorpe Park Rangers weren’t just “dumped in a lake”; they were bought by the National Diving Centre near Chepstow (which I incidentally live less than 10 minutes from, but isn’t overly near to Thorpe), and put underwater as scenery within one of the scuba diving/snorkelling activities that the centre used to run.

So I guess they were technically “dumped in a lake”, but they were broadly used for something rather than just being dumped unceremoniously.

The Diving Centre has admittedly been closed for a good couple of years now, though, to be turned into some sort of research facility for underwater living. I’m unsure what became of the Rangers after that.
EDIT - Proof if it’s needed that the Rangers did indeed end up in Chepstow, courtesy of Reddit:

Why Reddit describes Chepstow as “nearby” to Thorpe Park, I have no clue, but that’s a little besides the point…

I suppose it’s nearby if you live abroad

Been at the view cafe a few times overlooking the diving centre quarry didn't expect there to be submerged thorpe park theming, cool stuff though.

Thanks for clarifying that though @Matt N people were making it sound like thorpe had been fly tipping in the lake 😂

The post will almost certainly be by an American. It's something of a stereotype that Americans tend to consider all places in the UK as being nearby to one another.
My American friends simply refuse to believe me when I tell them how long we can drive for, yet travel so little distance. I don't think they've ever seen a road with fewer than six lanes.

Are Thorpe getting any new additions for next year?

A new stage and the continuation of there TLC program is the only thing confirmed so far so colossus will finally be finished hopefully?

New Hotel may get planning to but no new rides confirmed as of yet. I’d prefer the budget go on tidying up Hyperia and whatever there doing with the lake area?

Apart from the new entertainment area - there has been nothing announced or in the planning so far.

It doesn't mean it won't be anything new but I'd anticipate it won't be anything more than Monkey Swinger getting relocated there at the most with a refurbishment.

I'm thinking it's more likely that the Slammer Site will be a 2026 construction site for a large scale flat ride.

We'd have to wait and see 🙈
