Love it!

air needs a bomb on it IMO, but I understand the concern for people who like the ride. I'd be the same if they said they were retheming Oblivion. But I'm sure what they do to air can only make it better.

Would be great if they added dark tunnels to it with lights.

Well it could just be Scarefest/Fireworksy for all we know, or could even just be lights that change to any colour. Were they in the usual position or the blue lights, or an addition to it? Either way, spooky times. I'm nervy on how Sci-Fi this new Air theme could go. I would've thought this retheme was to add more theming to further polarise it from the recently troubled X-Sector area of the park, not bring it closer together with this science fiction.

Regardless, is it just me or does the new Alton Towers logo with the blue they posted almost look more... cold than Sci-Fi. That's it, Frozen confirmed, Merlin are no longer second to Disney, as they are now Disney with FROZEN THE RIDE COMING 2016! Join the Elsa, Ana, Olaf and Kristoff seats as you take flight through Arandelle, now that's setting the area apart. Called it.

I too like Air how it is, but sometimes you just have to embrace the change, Air is probably the best ride to do this on (could be done on Rita, but rita will probs be gone before air and the speed might be an issue). FV seems to be alot quieter since The Smiler opened so this will draw people back to the area which again can only be a good thing.
 
As most of you will be aware, I've always really liked Air, both as a ride itself and for sentimental reasons as it was the first major coaster I rode, not just at Towers but anywhere, apart from Cyclone and TraumaTizer back when Southport Pleasure Beach still existed, if they count. So I'm really sad to see it change. I've always like its minimalism, it's purity of form, it's definitely not the best coaster but still one of my favourites.

So it meant a lot to get on the last ever public train, was actually the last person through the airgate, wanted to be the last person out the station too but it wasn't to be. :p

Shame they're going to ruin it.

With respect, that's not a great comparison. Air doesn't have much theming, it can be improved, and any attempt at theming next year will be an improvement, but we are not complaining about this. It's the change of the theme and name that I want to stay. It's such a strong brand, prepare for air, assume the position, you can fly... the theme was made for air. It so original, I have never come across a ride with the same theme. I could be wrong (I'll judge after I see the finished product) but space is so generic and overused. Why risk losing a solid name when there is a Rita going without a retheme/rename.
 
^^ I agree - Air was not finished. It could have been so much better, and still can be if they spend the money on themeing and effects rather than changing the ride completely.
 
In an ideal world, this theming job would've been the oasis theme that should've been added in the first place, if that was the case, then there is no doubt I believe the majority on TS, if not everyone, would be a happy lot on these forums for once as the ride would finally feel 'complete'.

Thing is, we know very little about this whole theme job, hell even less than perhaps of any SW project, it's just the fact Alton are keeping mum about this. That said, if this was the last time seeing Air in it's current form, I'm surprised that Alton didn't do a sort of 'farewell' event for it. With that in mind, I'm highly sceptically they are simply renaming the ride totally...I sense something isn't what it seems here...
 
So did Towers it seems, not just with assume the position, but with Oblivion's Don't look down

I have here at home Branded Durex Condoms purchased in Both Air and Oblivion's Shop's

On the back of the air one it says "Assume the Position"

and the Oblivion it says "Don't Look Down"

Kinda cool if you ask me, but obviously somebody at Towers thought these slogans could be attributed to sex.
 
Funny we should be talking about the rides slogans and their alternative meanings as a friend of mine was talking about these slogans and what if a child took it the wrong way.

I just said to him, "If a child get's the adult meaning of it, then that kid is a dirty little s**t in the first place.":rolleyes:
 
If this isn't confirmation of the space theme I don't know what is, Also would imply It will still be called Air in some form.

Could I just put it out there that adding some form of tunnel just after the fly-to-Lie element just before the track goes up the hill over the entrance? Would be so cool going through it backwards, covered in mist even better, goes well with the space theme too!
