2016: The Smiler Reopening

Turns out it was only on three trains today, there was confusion because of the new train being used.
If that is true then it must be a very recent change in policy.

I've spoken to staff and it will never run 4 trains at once again.

Would 4 even improve anything, its been running perfectly well with 3,
2 on track 1 loading, what more do they need

I didn't think they sent a shuttle till the other had mad it to the brake run. Unless it's on two.

Rode the smiler yesterday and on Tuesday, the queue moved fairly quickly with 3 trains. It's disappointing that the projectors no longer work. I overheard plenty of guests saying it looked bad with no "illusions" on the walls.
I have a feeling this is to do with Towers being overly sensitive about the kind of message The Smiler is giving out. Like for example how the words "corrected" have been removed from all over the ride. The projector pre-show was known as the "optical procedures" room. The TV outside which displays "optical procedures" has never been switched on this season as far as im aware, as well as the projectors and strobes inside.
It's the same as the edited version of Oblivion's station videos. Completely unnecessary.

I've not been since May but the projectors have been working on all of my visits this season. I believe the strobe has been working at times also. The projects do seem very temperamental though so it wouldn't surprise me if they were broken and they've just not bothered to get them fixed.

How is it Towers have so many issues with projectors? If it's not Hex it's Charlie, if it's not Charlie it's The Smiler.
Just shell out and buy industrial grade projectors designed for this type of usage that will last or lamps that don't burn out every few days!
Mandyland somehow manage to keep Odin in Valhalla half working in a steamy environment.

The TV was switched on when I went two weeks ago. It was displaying an edited version of what it used to play minus any mention of correction or the side effects that used to scroll on the bottom of the screen. Not sure why the projections have been turned off as they were turned on at the start of the season - maybe something to do with the heat? They were prone to overheating and turning off during the 2014 summer. also at the start of the season they were playing "time to get corrected" and "part of the correctional process " parts of the audio in the optical room but both of these have been edited out.
Can't understand the edits to the oblivion videos myself. They're so awful
I don't think they're too badly edited. If you were a first time visitor, I doubt you'd notice. I understand why they originally did it to - don't want the media finding out about riders being thrown into "eternal darkness". Unnecessary now though, and they should return it to normal, no one's going to notice now. I can forgive them for doing it after the smiler (it was just one of many thing towers did to reduce the media impact as much as possible), but it's just lazy not putting it back now, it would take minutes to change back.
And the projectors weren't working when I went about a month ago, but the strobes were. The dispatch smoke was also off, as well as the dispatch audio. "Optical procedure" audio was on and not edited, however it was playing in the station as well.

The strobes on the ride itself are always working it seems, but its the strobes in the optical procedures room which I meant are turned off. So you have the external TV off, 4x projectors off, and the strobe lights off. That's not a technical glitch or a failed projector lamp, that's a deliberate cease of operation for the entire pre-show room.

That's the rough(est) transition, but there is quite a lot of vibration throughout the ride. The only part I find overly rough is the exit of the cobra role, the rest is quite smooth.
