They could build out into coaster corner for a dark ride to expand cloud cuckoo land quite easily. But given Thorpe are getting a new dark ride for 2016 i don't see Towers getting one for a while, just to keep investments varied. Overall though CCL is fine, it wasn't that long since the re theme from Cred Street.
A family thrill level wooden coaster would be perfect, they managed to get plans for it 12 years ago and got somewhere with planning permission before pulling it and I think they still could if they really wanted to.
Then build a dark ride for 2019, while refreshing all the other areas In between and adding to CBeebies on low investment years.

Yeah and this could be even shorter....

    Alton Towers 2017
    Rocky Mountain Construction
    Max Height: 20 m

    Launch Velocity: 68 kmph
    Launch Angle: 20 degrees
    Max Velocity: 80 kmph
    Total Length: 885 m
    Inversions: 2
    "Barrel Roll"
    "Zero G Roll"

    Total Ride Time: 90 sec
    Capacity: 1080 pph

    I agree.

I highly doubt this will be cross-valley. I'm sure many of you will be disappointed once this is announced, but it will certainly be the best coaster in England since Nemesis!

I don't get the logic in saying CCL is fine, half of it is boarded up and the rest are fairground rides that have no place in AT, Charlie is simply a waste of a good building.
The only 2 things worth saving are ice age and toadstools, the rest needs replacing.

I wouldn't worry about Charlie for much longer, it'll inevitably be scrapped by the end of next year...

...Which conveniently leaves a large indoor building vacant for 2017. Indoor 15 inversion launched RMC confirmed.

Agreed... But Toadstools is also a fairground ride. They couldn't even be arsed to sink it into a pit so it's flush with the ground like Monkey Swinger at Chessie.

Just to add to all the rumours and discussion over SW8. On Saturday we noticed that there had been a lot of tree clearing around Forbidden Valley, largely on the right of the area if you stand near the Skyride station and look in the direction of Air. Here are some photos from the TowersStreet Facebook page:

Of course this could be anything; general tree maintenance, a directive from the council to remove certain trees, disease treatment or it could be some form of early prep work for SW8. Interesting none the less.

I'm pretty sure I recall them doing some tree clearance work at FHT last year around this area, and there may have also been some happening during the season as well. It may well be that what they were doing was standard procedure, but if they're clearing more trees than they normally would, then maybe this could indeed be initial prep work for SW8.

It does look like a lot of the trees that have been removed were on the cliff edge so to speak, so they could have been structurally unsafe. However I am no expert on trees, maybe our resident tree expert @Sammy can give us a better idea! :p

Yup, @Sammy certainly is an expert with wood.

A thought occurs; I wonder is someone could get away with "accidently" infecting a few trees so that they need to be removed, that just happen to form a straight line across the valley? ;)

Or an awfully unfortunate but somewhat controlled fire across the valley that thankfully left many trees still in place but decimated a coaster sized area. Just like the Skyride fires it would be a very sad situation.

Or a mysterious tornado that happens to start in just the right place, and take just the right route, then stop in another convenient place without damaging anything else. Well, maybe Rita.

Now now, no fires necessary! Simply recycle the wood from the meticulously thought out tree felling and convert it into... oh I don't know... a woodie? Plenty of opportunity for acceptable cost cutting there as well.

Hang on a minute, that would require logic! They could always get TG Cruise in to perform some required tree felling; that would probably result in concrete being poured all over the trees in the valley and then when removing the concrete it would all go wrong and a load of trees would also be removed. Then TG Cruise would try and plant some new trees only for them to fall down within a few days. Towers give up and the council decide the best way to create a valley full of wood again is with a GCI! Sorted!

It'd be like waxing a leg to remove it of hair, except rather with trees leaving a desolate and barren landscape.

I dunno about anyone else but that's exactly how my legs are... ;)

I highly doubt the tree felling is anything more than standard/routine work. Even with pre-application meetings with the council (should these have even been dreamed of at this point), groundwork at this stage would be silly!

No harm in clearing a few trees that need clearing regardless before any application so that in the application it doesn't look like they are removing quite as many trees! ;)

All shall be revealed in October/November as long as all goes to plan.

We could just wait for the Skyride to collapse considering the thing is on its last legs. :p

Considering two stations got burnt down and rebuilt and it has entirely new cabins, I think it is okay for a while...... :)

Haha it really isn't. :p The system is ancient. They've had to train various team leaders on how to evacuate the pods if they get stuck over the gardens and have cleared space and made footers throughout the valley to allow them to park a cherry picker in the event that the system does go.
